Dawsonville’s Chase Elliott\u00a0dropped to second place in the NASCAR Cup Series points standings\u00a0after Sunday’s race at Iowa Speedway.<\/p>\n

Elliott finished 14th after spending the early part of the race in the top 10.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
William Byron\u00a0fought off fuel worries in the closing laps and went\u00a0went the last 144 laps of the 350-lap race without a stop en route to his second victory of the season. Byron (770) leads Elliott (752) by just 18 points. Elliott has a 27-point lead on Kylke Larson (725) with fourth-place Denny Hamlin (719) the only other driver with more than 700 points on the season.<\/p>\n

The series moves to Watkins Glen International in New York next Sunday. Chris Buescher is the defending race winner. Shane\u00a0Van Gisbergen has won three straight on road\/street courses.<\/p>\n
