He was an assistant on Jim Boeheim\u2019s coaching staff at Syracuse from 1995 to 2017. Although he had been designated as Boeheim\u2019s eventual successor, Hopkins left Syracuse after the 2016-17 to take the head coaching job at the University of Washington. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"5EH5Q7JNYNAIVNPXCQS4RU2IYQ\">In seven seasons at Washington, Hopkins compiled a 118-106 record, including two NCAA tournament appearances. He was let go after the 2023-24 season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"YNOP5OP57JBXLKYTOTUIOAYFVU\">Hopkins spent last year as an assistant with the Phoenix Suns. The Suns parted ways with head coach Mike Budenholzer after the season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"OH2T72LNKZHGDJ7PJRT3SGBS7A\">Hopkins will join another former Syracuse assistant coach in New Orleans. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.syracuse.com\/orangebasketball\/2025\/04\/former-syracuse-assistant-gets-high-profile-post-with-new-orleans-pelicans.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.syracuse.com\/orangebasketball\/2025\/04\/former-syracuse-assistant-gets-high-profile-post-with-new-orleans-pelicans.html\">Troy Weaver became the Pelicans\u2019<\/a> senior vice president of basketball operations in April.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"U7YGDHSXSNBGDJFW6SE6SRBRLM\">Hopkins and Weaver were both assistants at Syracuse when the Orange won the 2003 NCAA title.
