Endeavour<\/a> star Roger Allam<\/a> is set to appear alongside Ralph Fiennes<\/a> in The Choral, a brand new British drama. <\/p>\n

Set in 1916, the film follows the residents of a fictional town in Yorkshire as they navigate the trials and tribulations of World War One while attempting to fill the ranks of their local choral society. <\/p>\n

The newly-released trailer reveals Fiennes’ role as Dr. Henry Guthrie, the town’s new chorus master, who, thanks to his former career in Germany, raises suspicions among the locals. <\/p>\n

Details surrounding Allam<\/a>‘s role are limited, however the trailer has painted his character as a key member of the Choral Society’s committee. <\/p>\n

Directed by Nicholas Hytner, the esteemed filmmaker behind The Lady in the Van<\/a> (2015), the comedy-drama unites many of Britain’s finest actors, with Mark Addy<\/a>, Alun Armstrong and Simon Russell Beale joining Allam and Fiennes. <\/p>\n

The Choral will debut on 7 November in cinemas across the UK, after its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. <\/p>\n

Speaking about the project, Hytner commended writer Alan Bennett, who famously adapted The Madness of King George (1994) and The History Boys (2006), on his screenplay for The Choral. <\/p>\n

“The set-up here is that the choir have lost their younger and middle-aged men to the war. So, you have older members \u2013 who are too old to fight \u2013 and teenagers,” he told The Telegraph<\/a>. <\/p>\n

“And that’s incredibly moving. It has many of the things that people will recognise as characteristic of Alan Bennett. It has the ambiguities and the griefs of the old. It has the energy of the young who all want to get laid before they get killed \u2013 a History Boys energy in a way, but the young women are as energetic as the young men.”<\/p>\n

In a separate interview with Deadline<\/a>, Hytner added that The Choral is as “affecting and funny” as “anything” Bennett had “written in his long career”. <\/p>\n

The Choral<\/strong> will land in cinemas on 7 November. <\/strong><\/p>\n
