{"id":12140,"date":"2025-06-25T00:48:14","date_gmt":"2025-06-25T00:48:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/12140\/"},"modified":"2025-06-25T00:48:14","modified_gmt":"2025-06-25T00:48:14","slug":"asia-pacific-markets-live-australia-cpi-fed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/12140\/","title":{"rendered":"Asia-Pacific markets live: Australia CPI, Fed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sydney Harbour and the skyline of the central business district (CBD) in Sydney, Australia, on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Bloomberg | Bloomberg | Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Asia-Pacific markets opened higher Wednesday, as investors weighed a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/06\/23\/stock-market-today-live-updates.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fresh commentary <\/a>from the U.S. Federal Reserve.<\/p>\n<p>There is growing optimism that a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/06\/23\/iran-qatar-iraq-attacks-us-israel.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ceasefire<\/a>\u00a0between\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/israel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Israel<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/06\/23\/iran-qatar-missiles-us-doha.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Iran<\/a>\u00a0brokered by U.S. President\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Donald Trump<\/a> will likely hold.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.AXJO\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">S&amp;P\/ASX 200<\/a> rose 0.13% at open. South Korea&#8217;s Kospi climbed 0.44%, while the small-cap Kosdaq was flat.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s benchmark <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.N225\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nikkei 225<\/a> rose 0.12%, while the Topix slid 0.21%.<\/p>\n<p>Futures for Hong Kong&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.HSI\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hang Seng index<\/a> stood at 24,341, pointing to a higher open compared to the HSI&#8217;s last close of 24,177.07.<\/p>\n<p>Investors will be keeping an eye on Australia&#8217;s inflation data for May.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. futures\u00a0are near flat. Futures tied to the broad S&amp;P 500 index ticked down 0.1%, as did\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@ND.1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nasdaq 100 futures<\/a>.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@DJ.1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dow Jones Industrial Average futures<\/a>\u00a0lost 26 points, or 0.1%.<\/p>\n<p>Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said Tuesday the Fed was committed to keeping inflation in check and would likely keep rates steady until there&#8217;s more clarity on how tariffs might affect prices.<\/p>\n<p>Powell said policymakers were &#8220;well positioned to wait to learn more about the likely course of the economy before considering any adjustments to our policy stance.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Overnight stateside, the three major averages closed higher. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.DJI\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dow Jones Industrial Average<\/a>\u00a0climbed 507.24 points, or 1.19%, and closed at 43,089.02. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.SPX\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">S&amp;P 500<\/a>\u00a0gained 1.11% to end at 6,092.18. The broad market index is now about 0.9% away from its 52-week high. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.IXIC\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nasdaq Composite<\/a>\u00a0advanced 1.43%, settling at 19,912.53.
