ST. MARYS, Ga.<\/strong> \u2013 Questions remained Tuesday following an officer-involved shooting that left a Jacksonville man dead in St. Marys<\/a> on Sunday evening.<\/p>\n

Officials have released limited details about what led officers with the St. Marys Police Department to shoot 27-year-old Gregory Paige, from Jacksonville, inside an apartment at the Cumberland Oaks apartment complex. However, a video circulating on social media is giving some insight into how the incident unfolded, and other videos obtained by News4JAX show the chaotic aftermath.<\/p>\n

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the agency now investigating the shooting, police officers responded to a 911 call reporting Paige was \u201cmaking threats to kill her and was grabbing her aggressively.\u201d<\/p>\n

Officials said St. Marys police officers and Camden County Sheriff\u2019s Office deputies tried to enter the apartment to arrest Paige, but \u201cencountered\u201d Paige in the doorway of the apartment. During this \u201cencounter,\u201d two St. Marys Police Department officers fired their weapons, hitting Paige, GBI said.<\/p>\n

It is unclear what happened during that \u201cencounter,\u201d but a video posted on Facebook by a community member<\/a> shows officers standing outside the apartment complex and then walking toward the apartment\u2019s doorway. <\/p>\n

Moments later, at least 10 gunshots can be heard in the video. It is unclear if Paige had a weapon at the time of the shooting.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh my God, why did y\u2019all do that?\u201d a woman said moments after the shooting.<\/p>\n

Another video shows a chaotic scene in the aftermath of the shooting, including residents yelling at police and first responders carrying someone into an ambulance. The ambulance is then seen driving away.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey shot that man 10 m****f**** times,\u201d a man can be heard saying in the video.<\/p>\n

Paige was transported to Southeast Georgia Health System Camden Hospital, where he died.<\/p>\n

No officers were injured. <\/p>\n

Residents told NewsJAX on Tuesday they\u2019re stunned by the incident \u2014 and they want answers. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t have police-involved shootings out here. I\u2019ve been out here for a long time,\u201d said Jay Walker, a resident at Cumberland Oaks who witnessed the incident. \u201cThis is the wake-up call.\u201d<\/p>\n

Once the GBI investigation is complete, the findings will be turned over to the Brunswick District Attorney\u2019s Office for review.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, residents like Walker say they won\u2019t stay silent. <\/p>\n

\u201cTransparency,\u201d Walker said. \u201cWe understand y\u2019all, and we want answers\u2014that\u2019s for sure. A small-town guy gonna make a big impact, for sure.\u201d<\/p>\n

News4JAX reached out to the St. Mary\u2019s Police Department to ask if there is body camera footage of the incident and if Paige had a weapon during the encounter, but at the time of this publication, we hadn\u2019t heard back.<\/p>\n

News4JAX also reached out to Timothy Bessent, a Camden County pastor and Camden County NAACP President, who posted the video on Facebook that\u2019s been viewed over 47,000 times. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe deserve to know the entire truth of what happened,\u201d he wrote. <\/p>\n

Bessent wrote that he has been in contact with the St. Marys Chief of Police and that he said it would be a transparent investigation.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s not forget that a young man lost his life and numerous families have been affected by this event, including the officers involved,\u201d Bessent wrote.<\/p>\n
