(Mary Abby Goss | Fort Worth Report)<\/p>\n<p>Getting ready for the event is a year-round endeavor, Superintendent Matt Smith said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAaron Perales is our lead on this, and he probably starts work on this starting a month after the event is over,\u201d the superintendent said. \u201cThe nice thing about it is, after a number of years, we have a really great system in place.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The event included free backpacks and school supplies for Arlington ISD students, free haircuts, dental and vision screenings, and a resource fair for parents.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Over 9,000 students registered ahead of the event for free backpacks, the superintendent said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Makayla Sanders, whose daughter is attending Adams Elementary, said the event and supplies helped relieve stress ahead of the new school year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt takes that extra weight off my shoulders,\u201d Sanders said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca Anderson-Davis, a member of the Junior League of Arlington, has volunteered during the event for the past eight years and watched it grow.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe used to have all the kiddos and their parents out in the parking lot grabbing and getting things,\u201d Davis said. \u201cNow, it\u2019s a lot more user-friendly.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Inside the stadium, senior cosmetology students from the Arlington ISD Dan Dipert Career and Technical Center gave haircuts while seniors in the health care program at Bowie High School assisted with dental services.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Bowie High senior Jaylen Mayhew said he stepped up to help after hearing that coordinators were accepting more volunteers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"780\" height=\"520\" data-attachment-id=\"292878\" data-permalink=\"https:\/\/fortworthreport.org\/goss-backtoschoolkickoff-07\/\" data-orig-file=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/fortworthreport.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Goss-BacktoSchoolKickoff-07-scaled.jpg?fit=2560%2C1707&amp;ssl=1\" data-orig-size=\"2560,1707\" data-comments-opened=\"0\" data-image-meta=\"{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;2.8&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;Canon EOS R5m2&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;Jaylen Mayhew, Bowie High School P-Tech student, helps pass out free toothbrushes during the Back to School Kickoff event August 2, 2025, at the AT&amp;T Stadium in Arlington. (Mary Abby Goss | Fort Worth Report)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been really amazing to watch our kids interact with our younger kiddos and older kiddos, but they\u2019re just really proud to give back to our community,\u201d Polster said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With the school year beginning soon, the superintendent said the event signified the community coming together to support the next generation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf they need assistance with school meals, we have opportunities for them to get signed up. If they need a dental screening, that\u2019s going on here,\u201d Superintendent Smith said. \u201cThis really shows the community support for our kids, and that\u2019s why it\u2019s such a special event.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Chris Moss is a reporting fellow for the Arlington Report.
