Another week, another deluge of damning examples of failure to get the dangerously mentally ill off New York City\u2019s streets.<\/p>\n
Two young men in Brooklyn tried to help a woman who was being stalked in the wee hours of Saturday morning, only to get stabbed<\/a> by the creep apparently following her.<\/p>\n The same day, The Post reported that a psycho sucker-punched an 88-year-old woman in the face<\/a> in Times Square, knocking out her two front teeth. <\/p>\n On Wednesday, a deranged sicko who was charged with a spree of anti-Muslim hate crimes in 2021 (and ordered to undergo a psych evaluation) beat a 55-year-old hijab-wearing woman<\/a> so badly that he fractured her nose. <\/p>\n And a lunatic\u00a0stabbed two men on a No. 5 train<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 then allegedly told cops it was because one of them stepped on his shoes.<\/p>\n On June 16, a maniac allegedly obsessed with lodging unsubstantiated complaints against law enforcement brutally stabbed two court officers in Manhattan<\/a>, nearly slicing one of their arteries.<\/p>\n \t\t\tMore From\t\t\t\t\t\t\tPost Editorial Board<\/p>\n All this follows the early June assault by a deranged homeless man (with five prior arrests) on a 94-year-old woman<\/a>, bashing her head with two pieces of metal; he\u2019d been busted in November for punching a 15-year-old girl in the back of the neck, but freed on \u201csupervised release,\u201d only to allegedly attack another man in March and get cut loose again.<\/p>\n These perps have at least a documented history of alarm-bell behavior; some are outright poster kids for long-term psychiatric hold.<\/p>\n The NYPD under Commissioner Jessica Tisch has worked tirelessly to bring down homicide and shooting rates<\/a>, but only 42% of New Yorkers<\/a> feel their neighborhood\u2019s safety is \u201cexcellent\u201d or \u201cgood\u201d; and only 22% feel safe riding the subway at night.<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t\t\tGet opinions and commentary from our columnists\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSubscribe to our daily Post Opinion newsletter!\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t\tThanks for signing up!\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n With lunatics on the loose maiming random strangers, why should they?<\/p>\n
