{"id":12235,"date":"2025-06-25T01:29:11","date_gmt":"2025-06-25T01:29:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/12235\/"},"modified":"2025-06-25T01:29:11","modified_gmt":"2025-06-25T01:29:11","slug":"patrick-mouratoglou-gives-his-verdict-on-aryna-sabalenkas-message-to-coco-gauff-after-french-open-controversy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/12235\/","title":{"rendered":"Patrick Mouratoglou gives his verdict on Aryna Sabalenka&#8217;s message to Coco Gauff after French Open controversy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Aryna Sabalenka\u2019s post-match comments at Roland Garros dominated headlines for weeks.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In a match between the top two seeds, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/coco-gauff-posts-emotional-message-on-instagram-after-winning-the-french-open-title-against-aryna-sabalenka\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Coco Gauff defeated Sabalenka<\/a> 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 to win her maiden French Open title earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>After the match, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/aryna-sabalenka-criticised-for-rude-comment-after-losing-to-coco-gauff-in-the-french-open-final\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sabalenka said the conditions were \u2018horrible\u2019<\/a> on Court Philippe Chatrier, comments that were widely criticised by fans and pundits.<\/p>\n<p>Frustrated after such a devastating defeat, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/aryna-sabalenka-makes-controversial-claim-about-iga-swiatek-straight-after-losing-to-coco-gauff-in-the-french-open-final\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sabalenka claimed Iga Swiatek would have beaten Gauff<\/a> if she had qualified for the final during her post-match press conference.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/GettyImages-2216669045-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Aryna Sabalenka speaks to the media ahead of the 2025 French Open\" class=\"wp-image-101581\" \/>Photo by Franco Arland\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>She made a poorly received apology the following day, but expressed herself much better ahead of last week\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/berlin-tennis-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Berlin Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was just completely unprofessional of me. I let my emotions get the better of me. I absolutely regret what I said back then,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/aryna-sabalenka\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sabalenka<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut what I also want to say is that I wrote to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/coco-gauff\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Coco [Gauff]<\/a> afterward, not immediately, but recently. I wanted to apologise and make sure she knew she absolutely deserved to win the tournament and that I respect her. I never intended to attack her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to Sabalenka\u2019s latest apology, top <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/wta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WTA<\/a> coach Patrick Mouratoglou weighed in with his thoughts.<\/p>\n<p>Patrick Mouratoglou \u2018really loved\u2019 Aryna Sabalenka\u2019s message to Coco Gauff<\/p>\n<p>Talking on Instagram, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/naomi-osaka\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Naomi Osaka\u2019s<\/a> coach Mouratoglou gave his verdict on Sabalenka\u2019s message to Gauff.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven if she\u2019s the world number one, even if she\u2019s winning so much, even if she can show so much confidence in her behavior, what happened just shows that she\u2019s a human, and it feels good,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/patrick-mouratoglou\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mouratoglou<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst of all, I really love that Aryna [Sabalenka] was able to take distance, reflect, and come back with some comments about her final and the commentaries she made about the match against Coco [Gauff].<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe all go through moments when we have too much emotion, and it\u2019s not the mind that speaks, it\u2019s the emotions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Frenchman claimed he had seen those same emotions when working with 23-time Major winner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/serena-williams\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Serena Williams<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it was very emotional for her, I mean it\u2019s a Grand Slam final,\u201d said Mouratoglou.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe emotional level, and I went through that with Serena [Williams] many times. I think it\u2019s proof of strength,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it takes a lot of courage, it shows a lot of maturity to be able to express, and to admit it, at some point, shows strength.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOtherwise, people who are not strong mentally will try to hide their fragility as much as they can.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe said she was not clever to say that. I would say the opposite. Sometimes, and especially in super emotional moments, they can say things that maybe aren\u2019t right.
