SAN ANTONIO – As you can see in the exclusive video below, a fast-moving brush fire near Applewhite Road and Silver Mountain Drive has scorched at least 300 acres and is 50% contained, prompting emergency evacuations in the area.<\/p>\n

Authorities issued a mass notification alert this afternoon, instructing residents to evacuate immediately. So far, 30 homes have been evacuated, and officials are urging others in the fire\u2019s path to leave without delay.<\/p>\n

Evacuees are being directed to Elmendorf City Hall, which is serving as a temporary shelter.<\/p>\n

The Texas A&M Forest Service has named the fire the Silver Mountain fire, according to their website<\/a>. As of 8:45 p.m., the fire has grown to 300 acres and is 50% contained.<\/p>\n

According to the Bexar County ESD No. 2 Assistant Fire Chief Mark Montgomery, the fire began around 2:45 p.m. from a controlled burn that had quickly blown out of control and was spreading towards nearby vehicles and homes.<\/p>\n

One firefighter has been treated on the scene for heat exhaustion.
