{"id":122503,"date":"2025-08-06T02:48:12","date_gmt":"2025-08-06T02:48:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/122503\/"},"modified":"2025-08-06T02:48:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-06T02:48:12","slug":"jack-sock-names-the-atp-player-he-thinks-will-win-the-canadian-open-but-john-isner-disagrees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/122503\/","title":{"rendered":"Jack Sock names the ATP player he thinks will win the Canadian Open but John Isner disagrees"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The business end of the WTA and ATP Canadian Open is fast approaching.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The finals in Montreal and Toronto will take place on Thursday and Friday respectively, rather than over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>In an event in which many of the top male players withdrew, the crowds have been treated to some exciting matches.<\/p>\n<p>It remains to be seen who will take the crown, but former ATP players <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/jack-sock\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jack Sock<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/john-isner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John Isner<\/a> have shared their predictions.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/GettyImages-2227708277-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Alex de Minaur hits a volley at the National Bank Open 2025\" class=\"wp-image-117783\" \/>Photo by Mert Alper Dervis\/Anadolu via Getty ImagesJack Sock thinks Alex de Minaur will win the Canadian Open but John Isner is backing Ben Shelton<\/p>\n<p>The likes of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jannik Sinner<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/carlos-alcaraz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carlos Alcaraz<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/ben-shelton-gives-his-verdict-on-jannik-sinner-novak-djokovic-and-carlos-alcaraz-all-withdrawing-from-the-canadian-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Novak Djokovic withdrew from the Canadian Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>British number one <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/jack-draper-pulls-out-of-two-tournaments-before-the-us-open-as-he-confirms-injury-he-picked-up-at-wimbledon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jack Draper is also absent in Canada<\/a> and these players not being at the tournament has given others a greater chance of success.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/alex-de-minaur\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alex de Minaur<\/a> has yet to win a Masters 1000 title. However, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/alex-de-minaur-reveals-what-he-told-alejandro-davidovich-fokina-who-was-crying-after-his-washington-open-final-loss\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">De Minaur won the Citi Open<\/a> just before arriving in Canada and he is on an eight-match win streak.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/jack-sock\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jack Sock<\/a> thinks he will continue this momentum and claim the title in Toronto. \u201cI actually think De Minaur is going to win the tournament,\u201d he told the Nothing Major podcast.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think he is going to win back to back titles. Hot take!\u201d On the other hand, his co-host <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/john-isner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John Isner<\/a>, thinks their compatriot <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/ben-shelton\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ben Shelton<\/a> will lift the title.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, I think Ben [Shelton] is going to get Alex so I disagree with you on that,\u201d the former world number eight said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBen\u2019s trajectory is just so good right now, how he is steadily improving. I think he is setting himself up eventually for something really, really big. I\u2019m so impressed with Ben.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/GettyImages-2227057785-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Ben Shelton reacts during his 2025 Canadian Open match against Adrian Mannarino\" class=\"wp-image-116666\" \/>Photo by Mert Alper Dervis\/Anadolu via Getty ImagesAlex de Minaur and Ben Shelton will play each other in the Canadian Open quarterfinals<\/p>\n<p>Either one of Sock or Isner\u2019s predictions will be proved wrong as they are set to face one another at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/canadian-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Canadian Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Both Shelton and De Minaur will compete for a spot in the semi-finals at the Masters 1000 event in Toronto.<\/p>\n<p>Shelton has won successive three-set battles to reach the last eight, both of which he won in a final set tiebreak.<\/p>\n<p>De Minaur has played just two matches after receiving a walkover in round three, and he needed three sets to win his last match against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/frances-tiafoe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Frances Tiafoe<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Toronto will mark Shelton and De Minaur\u2019s first ATP meeting and it is set to be an exciting battle between two of the tour\u2019s most dynamic players.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The business end of the WTA and ATP Canadian Open is fast approaching.
