Mary Sheffield, Detroit City Council president, will advance to the November general election in the race for mayor, the AP projects.<\/p>\n

Sheffield was considered the front-runner heading into the August primary on Tuesday. She\u2019ll face the second-highest vote getter in November.<\/p>\n

Nine candidates put their names on the ballot to be Detroit\u2019s next mayor. On Aug. 5, 2025, the city voted on the top two candidates who will run head-to-head.<\/p>\n

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan announced in December 2024 that he will not be running for reelection. Instead, he is running as an Independent candidate for Michigan\u2019s governor.<\/p>\n
