{"id":122729,"date":"2025-08-06T04:48:17","date_gmt":"2025-08-06T04:48:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/122729\/"},"modified":"2025-08-06T04:48:17","modified_gmt":"2025-08-06T04:48:17","slug":"medical-transport-plane-crash-on-navajo-nation-kills-four","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/122729\/","title":{"rendered":"Medical transport plane crash on Navajo Nation kills four"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A small medical transport plane crashed and caught fire Tuesday on the Navajo Nation in northern Arizona, killing four people, the tribe said in a statement. <\/p>\n<p>A Beechcraft King Air 300 from the CSI Aviation company left Albuquerque, New Mexico, with two pilots and two health care providers, according to the Federal Aviation Administration and CSI Aviation. It crashed in the early afternoon near the airport in Chinle, about 300 miles (483 kilometers) northeast of Phoenix.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey were trying to land there and unfortunately something went wrong,\u201d district Police Commander Emmett Yazzie said.<\/p>\n<p>The crew was planning pick up a patient who needed critical care from the federal Indian Health Service hospital in Chinle, said Sharen Sandoval, director of the Navajo Department of Emergency Management. She said the plan was to return to Albuquerque. (Navajo Nation Police Department)<\/p>\n<p>Read More<\/p>\n<p>Tribal authorities began receiving reports at 12:44 p.m. of black smoke at the airport, Sandoval said. The cause of the crash wasn\u2019t known, the tribe said. The National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA are investigating.<\/p>\n<p>CSI Aviation officials \u201cwith great sadness\u201d confirmed the deaths in an emailed statement and extended condolences to the families, friends and loved ones of the people killed. Their names haven\u2019t been released.<\/p>\n<p>The company is cooperating with the investigation, according to the statement.<\/p>\n<p>Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren said in a social media post that he was heartbroken to learn of the crash.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese were people who dedicated their lives to saving others, and their loss is felt deeply across the Navajo Nation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Medical transports by air from the Navajo Nation are common because most hospitals are small and do not offer advanced or trauma care. The Chinle airport is one of a handful of airports that the tribe owns and operates on the vast 27,000 square-mile (70,000 square-kilometer) reservation that stretches into Arizona, New Mexico and Utah &#8212; the largest land base of any Native American tribe.<\/p>\n<p>In January, <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/philadelphia-plane-crash-medical-flight-neighborhood-206544a809bfe54c70af0737189b0ccb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a medical transport plane crashed<\/a> in Philadelphia, killing eight people.
