1.\u00a0Small earthquake shakes New York City area for second time in days<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n

A small earthquake shook the New York City area for the second time in less than a week today, the U.S. Geological Survey confirmed.<\/p>\n

The 2.7 magnitude quake hit 2 kilometers southwest of Hillsdale, New Jersey \u2014 about 30 miles from Midtown Manhattan \u2014 at 12:11 p.m., according to USGS.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0Brooklyn Heights subway station reopens after awning collapse<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n

Subway service has resumed at the Clark Street station in Brooklyn Heights, two days after a concrete awning collapsed outside its entrance.<\/p>\n

The Department of Buildings lifted its\u00a0vacate order for the station\u2019s Clark Street entrance\u00a0this morning, saying contractors hired by the property owner installed shoring under the awning overnight.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0Weekend service changes on tap for 4, 5 and 6 train riders<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n

For two weekends in August, 4, 5 and 6 train riders will see service suspensions along swaths of the three subway lines.<\/p>\n

The MTA said it plans to carry out track replacement work along the lines the weekends of Friday Aug. 15 to Monday, Aug. 18 and Friday, Aug. 22 to Monday, Aug. 25. Here’s what you need to know about the service changes.<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0Marjorie Taylor Greene calls for George Santos’ 7-year sentence to be commuted<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n

It might be hard to find someone to have your back in politics if you get caught lying about your life story, become one of a handful of people ever expelled from Congress and then are thrown into federal prison. But\u00a0George Santos\u00a0is no ordinary former politician.<\/p>\n

In a letter Monday, U.S. Rep.\u00a0Marjorie Taylor Greene\u00a0formally came to the aid of the disgraced ex-congressman with a request that his seven-year prison sentence be commuted, arguing that the length of the term represented \u201ca grave injustice.\u201d<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0House committee issues subpoenas for Epstein files, depositions with Clintons and other officials<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n

The House Oversight Committee subpoenaed the Justice Department today for files in the Jeffrey Epstein sex trafficking investigation and is seeking depositions with the Clintons and former law enforcement officials, part of a congressional probe that lawmakers believe may show links to President Donald Trump and former top officials.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile,\u00a0Epstein’s former girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell, wants to keep grand jury records secret<\/a> in the sex trafficking case that sent her to prison, her lawyers said today as prosecutors continued urging a court to release some of those records in the criminal case-turned-political fireball.<\/p>\n

6.\u00a0Trump says tariffs on pharma, chips to be announced in ‘next week or so’<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n

Tariffs on pharmaceutical and chip imports are on the horizon, President Donald Trump said this morning.<\/p>\n

Taxes on medicine made outside the United States could rise as high as 250%, Trump told the anchors of\u00a0CNBC\u2019s “Squawk Box\u201d during a nearly 40-minute interview in which he also hinted at raising the tariff rate for goods imported from India and at meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping to hash out a trade deal before the end of the year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

7.\u00a0Celebrity softball game in Brooklyn to raise money for Maimonides Breast Center<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n

Celebrities will take to the baseball field to compete against some of the city\u2019s top physicians. It\u2019s part of the \u201cBattle for Brooklyn\u201d charity softball game to raise money for Maimonides Breast Center.<\/p>\n
