In a statement<\/a> issued on Tuesday night, the Department of Health and Human Services described the move as a \u201ccoordinated wind-down of its mRNA vaccine development activities under the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA).\u201d<\/p>\n The agency claimed the decision was made after carrying out a \u201ccomprehensive review\u201d of mRNA-related investments made during the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n Kennedy said BARDA will scrap 22 mRNA vaccine development investments, claiming that data showed \u201cthese vaccines fail to protect effectively against upper respiratory infections like COVID and flu.\u201d<\/p>\n Kennedy also claimed that the HHS will shift this funding towards \u201csafer, broader vaccine platforms that remain effective even as viruses mutate,\u201d without offering any specifics.<\/p>\n The noted vaccine also insisted that the HHS \u201csupports safe, effective vaccines for every American who wants them.\u201d<\/p>\n Chief Critics<\/p>\n In a post on X<\/a>, immunologist and former BARDA Director Rick Bright wrote: \u201cBARDA invested in mRNA technology precisely because it could deliver safe, scalable vaccines in record time, a capability proven during COVID.
