{"id":123480,"date":"2025-08-06T11:39:15","date_gmt":"2025-08-06T11:39:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/123480\/"},"modified":"2025-08-06T11:39:15","modified_gmt":"2025-08-06T11:39:15","slug":"nexus-card-applications-no-longer-accepting-x-gender-marker","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/123480\/","title":{"rendered":"Nexus card applications no longer accepting &#8216;X&#8217; gender marker"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Canadians who apply for a new or renewed Nexus card can no longer select an &#8220;X&#8221; gender marker\u00a0on their applications, and instead must choose either &#8220;M&#8221; or &#8220;F.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) confirmed the change in a statement on Tuesday, saying\u00a0it followed U.S. President Donald Trump&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/world\/trump-gender-executive-order-1.7436438\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">executive order\u00a0in January<\/a>\u00a0that the U.S. will only recognize male or female on documents such as visas and passports.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The corresponding changes by U.S.\u00a0Customs and Border Protection (CBP) also changed the application process for Nexus cards, the CBSA\u00a0said in an email to CBC News.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The change went into effect in February, it said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Nexus program, run jointly by the CBSA\u00a0and CBP, allows card holders to fast-track through customs and security lines at\u00a0airports and land crossings. While many use the cards for cross-border travel, some use them primarily for shorter wait times while travelling within Canada.<\/p>\n<p>The CBSA says there were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/border-services-agency\/news\/2024\/04\/the-cbsa-and-us-cbp-provide-an-update-on-the-nexus-program.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">more than 1.8 million program members<\/a> in April 2024, &#8220;with the majority of members being Canadian.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH |\u00a0Transgender people in the U.S. say they&#8217;re worried:<\/strong>\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/1754480355_513_default.jpg\"  alt=\"\" class=\"thumbnail\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"video-item-title\">Breaking down Trump\u2019s \u2018two genders\u2019 executive order<\/p>\n<p>Transgender people in the U.S. say they\u2019re worried about what\u2019s to come after President Donald Trump signed an executive order saying his government only recognizes two sexes that are assigned at birth. <\/p>\n<p>The agency\u00a0says Canadians who currently have a valid Nexus card with an &#8220;X&#8221; will still have the document recognized, but they will no longer be able to choose &#8220;X&#8221; when it comes time to renew or replace their cards.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Trump&#8217;s executive order declared\u00a0federal agencies will only\u00a0recognize &#8220;two sexes, male and female,&#8221; which &#8220;are not changeable and are grounded in fundamental and incontrovertible reality.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The presidential order said\u00a0passports and\u00a0other forms of government-issued identification\u00a0must reflect the sex assigned at birth.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The website for the U.S.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/travel.state.gov\/content\/travel\/en\/passports\/passport-help\/sex-marker.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bureau of Consular Affairs<\/a>, the agency that issues passports, said it will &#8220;only issue passports with an &#8216;M&#8217;\u00a0or &#8216;F&#8217;\u00a0sex marker that match the customer&#8217;s biological sex at birth&#8221; and will no longer use the &#8220;X&#8221; marker for nonbinary people, citing Trump&#8217;s order.<\/p>\n<p>Canada began recognizing the &#8220;X&#8221; marker on passports\u00a0for those who don&#8217;t identify as male or female\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/immigration-refugees-citizenship\/news\/notices\/gender-x-documents.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">in 2019<\/a>.
