{"id":123516,"date":"2025-08-06T11:59:10","date_gmt":"2025-08-06T11:59:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/123516\/"},"modified":"2025-08-06T11:59:10","modified_gmt":"2025-08-06T11:59:10","slug":"disney-to-stop-reporting-subscriber-numbers-for-disney-hulu-espn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/123516\/","title":{"rendered":"Disney to Stop Reporting Subscriber Numbers for Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/disney\/\" id=\"auto-tag_disney\" data-tag=\"disney\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Disney<\/a>, following in the footsteps of Netflix and others, soon will no longer report the number of subscribers for its Disney+, <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/hulu\/\" id=\"auto-tag_hulu\" data-tag=\"hulu\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hulu<\/a> and ESPN+ streaming services.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tDisney said it will no longer report paid subscribers or average revenue per unit (ARPU) for the trio of streamers \u2014 saying those metrics have become \u201cless meaningful to evaluating the performance of our businesses.\u201d The company will discontinue reporting subs and ARPU for Disney+ and Hulu with the first quarter of its fiscal 2026 (the last three months of calendar year 2025), and will no longer report the metrics for ESPN+ as of the September 2025 quarter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWe are focused on managing our businesses to deliver growth in a sustained way, and to align our financial reporting with how we operate,\u201d Disney CEO Bob Iger and CFO Hugh Johnston wrote in quarterly earnings commentary released Wednesday. \u201cSince we began reporting the number of paid subscribers and ARPU, our DTC strategy and the operating environment have evolved. Given this evolution, we plan to implement changes to our Entertainment and Sports financial disclosures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe execs said that \u201cwhile we will no longer disclose subscribers and ARPU, we will provide information on Entertainment Direct-to-Consumer profitability.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWe believe our reporting going forward will better align with changes in the media landscape, the unique nature of our integrated assets, how we operate our businesses, and will reflect how management evaluates the progress and success of our strategic initiatives,\u201d the execs wrote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFor the June 2025 quarter, <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/tv\/news\/disney-plus-subscribers-parks-earnings-fiscal-q3-2025-1236479377\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Disney\u2018s streaming revenue increased 6%<\/a> and the segment turned a profit of $346 million. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAs of the end of June, Disney\u2019s combined Disney+ and Hulu subscribers reached 183 million, an increase of 2.6 million versus\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/tv\/news\/disney-earnings-fiscal-q2-2025-streaming-profit-iger-outlook-1236388735\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the previous January-March quarter<\/a>. Core Disney+ subscribers stood at 128 million, up 1.8 million sequentially. (Disney said in May it had expected \u201cmodest increase\u201d in Disney+ subs for the June 2025 quarter.) Hulu subscribers reached 55.5 million, a net gain of 800,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFor the July-September 2025 period, Disney is projecting total Disney+ and Hulu subscriptions to increase by more than 10 million, primarily driven by the company\u2019s expanded Charter deal.
