The withdrawals continue to fall ahead of the US Open this year as another player has cast doubt over her participation.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Novak Djokovic has already withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open<\/a>, which is the next stop in the US Open<\/a> hard court swing.<\/p>\n

This appears to be a conscious decision that Djokovic<\/a> has made, while other top 10 players have already been forced to withdraw from the US Open<\/a> due to injury.<\/p>\n

There now could be a top five ranked player on the WTA Tour<\/a> that could be joining that list after she withdrew from the Cincinnati Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Mirra Andreeva is predicted to be a future Grand Slam champion<\/a>, and is currently at her career-high ranking of world number five.<\/p>\n

The Russian teenager has shown why there is so much hype around her this year, with Andreeva winning Indian Wells<\/a> and the Dubai Tennis Championships<\/a> in back-to-back WTA 1000 tournaments.<\/p>\n

However, all has not been well for Andreeva since her Wimbledon quarterfinal defeat<\/a>, as she has suffered a concerning injury. <\/p>\n

At the Canadian Open<\/a>, Andreeva<\/a> did not play a single match to reach the third round, receiving a bye as the fourth seed, before her next opponent Bianca Andreescu withdrew due to an ankle injury<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately for Andreeva, an ankle issue was going to impact her next, as she suffered a nasty fall 4-1 down in the second set to American McCartney Kessler, who is predicted to reach the top 10<\/a> herself.<\/p>\n

Andreeva then had her injury ankle heavily strapped and did actually complete the match, but it appears to have had lasting damage on her.<\/p>\n

It has now been confirmed that Andreeva has officially withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open, and she is now in a race against time to be fit for the US Open.<\/p>\n

Andreeva is also entered into the heavily criticised US Open mixed doubles event<\/a> alongside her compatriot Daniil Medvedev<\/a>.<\/p>\n

What did Mirra Andreeva do at the Cincinnati Open last year?<\/p>\n

With Andreeva already achieving so much, it is easy to forget just how young she still is at 18 years of age.<\/p>\n

Last year was actually Andreeva\u2019s debut appearance at the Cincinnati Open, and she certainly made an impact.<\/p>\n

Andreeva beat a host of big names including former world number one Karolina Pliskova, two-time Grand Slam finalist Jasmine Paolini<\/a> and Emma Navarro<\/a> en route to reaching the quarterfinals.<\/p>\n

That was where she pushed top seed Iga Swiatek<\/a> right to the wire, only narrowly losing out in a deciding third set.<\/p>\n

As a result of her endeavours in Cincinnati last year, Andreeva will subsequently drop 215 ranking points.<\/p>\n
