{"id":12382,"date":"2025-06-25T02:45:10","date_gmt":"2025-06-25T02:45:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/12382\/"},"modified":"2025-06-25T02:45:10","modified_gmt":"2025-06-25T02:45:10","slug":"wimbledons-controversial-decision-has-been-proven-to-be-entirely-correct-before-the-main-tournament-even-starts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/12382\/","title":{"rendered":"Wimbledon&#8217;s controversial decision has been proven to be entirely correct before the main tournament even starts"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The Wimbledon organisers will be stocking up on strawberries and cream, ready to welcome tennis aficionados from all over the world, for two weeks of box office sport. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/carlos-alcaraz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carlos Alcaraz<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/barbora-krejcikova\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Barbora Krejcikova<\/a> will be the players with targets on their backs as they return looking to defend the titles they won last year. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jannik Sinner<\/a> will be looking to get revenge on Alcaraz after losing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/french-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">French Open<\/a> final to the Spaniard, whilst <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/coco-gauff\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Coco Gauff<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/aryna-sabalenka\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Aryna Sabalenka<\/a> will be on a collision course towards the final in the female draw. <\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/opinion\/wimbledon-organisers-have-made-an-error-before-the-tournament-even-starts-that-could-cost-british-players-in-future\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wimbledon organisers caused a stir<\/a> earlier this month by announcing a plethora of British players to make up their wildcard entrants. <\/p>\n<p>Naturally, most of the Grand Slam committees favour homegrown talent for those spots, but very few of them this year recognised any real achievement or milestones. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/GettyImages-2218828175-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"2025 French Open - Day Twelve\" \/>Photo by Lionel Hahn\/Getty ImagesWimbledon\u2019s controversial decision now justified<\/p>\n<p>There was a big talking point when the wildcards were announced on the women\u2019s side of the draw. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/lois-boisson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lois Boisson<\/a> wasn\u2019t handed one, despite making the last four at the French Open and beating some top players as a rank outsider. <\/p>\n<p>That meant that the French player had to qualify to make the main draw, and on day one of the women\u2019s matches, she finds herself heading back to France. <\/p>\n<p>The 22-year-old will be an automatic qualifier for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/us-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">US Open<\/a> in August, having made it to 67 in the world rankings following her exploits at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/roland-garros\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Roland Garros<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>However, the cut-off for Wimbledon came before that tournament and now Boisson won\u2019t be at this year\u2019s event. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/coco-vandeweghe-gives-shock-view-on-the-atmosphere-on-philippe-chatrier-for-coco-gauffs-semi-final-against-lois-boisson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CoCo Vandeweghe praised the decision to omit Boisson<\/a> because her big achievement last month came on clay and not on grass. <\/p>\n<p>Now, it appears as though Wimbledon have been made to look very wise and knowledgeable by not going with sentiment and giving her a wildcard. <\/p>\n<p>Wimbledon decision could still backfire<\/p>\n<p>It will be great to see so many home hopefuls out on the various courts at Wimbledon, but there could be repercussions for the players getting their chance. <\/p>\n<p>Having overlooked players from other countries, it could make life harder for the Brits to get wildcards for the other Grand Slam events in the future. <\/p>\n<p>That could hamper their development as younger players and make life harder for them as they look to progress as professional tennis players. <\/p>\n<p>Still, the decision to overlook Boisson can\u2019t be criticised and now the Wimbledon committee have had the last laugh after some fans gave them a fierce backlash. <\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Wimbledon organisers will be stocking up on strawberries and cream, ready to welcome tennis aficionados from all&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":12383,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[48],"tags":[1479,13054,62,1464,67,132,68],"class_list":{"0":"post-12382","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-tennis","8":"tag-atp","9":"tag-lois-boisson","10":"tag-sports","11":"tag-tennis","12":"tag-united-states","13":"tag-unitedstates","14":"tag-us"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@us\/114741714927526140","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/12382","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=12382"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/12382\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/12383"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=12382"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=12382"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=12382"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
