{"id":123864,"date":"2025-08-06T15:00:19","date_gmt":"2025-08-06T15:00:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/123864\/"},"modified":"2025-08-06T15:00:19","modified_gmt":"2025-08-06T15:00:19","slug":"tim-cook-to-join-trump-for-apple-investment-announcement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/123864\/","title":{"rendered":"Tim Cook to join Trump for Apple investment announcement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Apple CEO Tim Cook, left, and President Donald Trump speak to the press during a tour of the Flextronics computer manufacturing facility in Austin, Texas, where Apple&#8217;s Mac Pros are assembled, Nov. 20, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Mandel Ngan | AFP | Getty Images<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/AAPL\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Apple<\/a> CEO <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/tim-cook\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tim Cook<\/a> will join President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Donald Trump<\/a> on Wednesday for an event touting what the White House calls a new $100 billion investment commitment by the tech giant in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement in the Oval Office, set for 4:30 p.m. ET, includes Apple&#8217;s commitment to a new &#8220;American Manufacturing Program,&#8221; a White House official confirmed to CNBC.<\/p>\n<p>With the new pledge, Apple&#8217;s total investment in the U.S. over the next four years now totals $600 billion, the official said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-08-06\/trump-apple-to-announce-fresh-100-billion-in-us-manufacturing?embedded-checkout=true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bloomberg<\/a> first reported Apple&#8217;s new investment pledge earlier Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting comes as Trump has pushed Apple to make its products in America \u2014 a feat that experts say would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/04\/11\/heres-how-much-a-made-in-the-usa-iphone-would-cost.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">jack up prices<\/a> by hundreds of dollars, if it can even be done at all.<\/p>\n<p>Most of Apple&#8217;s flagship iPhones have been manufactured in China, though the company is moving some of its production to India.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has complained about that plan. &#8220;We&#8217;re not interested in you building in India, India can take care of themselves &#8230; we want you to build here,&#8221; Trump said he told Cook in May.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, Trump announced he will double the U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/08\/06\/trump-trade-india-tariffs-russia.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tariff rate on Indian goods<\/a> to 50%. Trump said he was raising the tariff because of India continuing to purchase Russian oil.<\/p>\n<p>Trump had exempted smartphones, chips and other tech products from his early April &#8220;reciprocal&#8221; tariff plan, which slapped a 10% baseline duty on nearly the entire world and set significantly higher rates for dozens of individual countries. <\/p>\n<p>That exemption still applied as of this week, following Trump&#8217;s executive order tweaking U.S. tariffs on a slew of countries. <\/p>\n<p>And it appears to remain intact in Trump&#8217;s latest order ratcheting up tariffs on imports from India.<\/p>\n<p>Apple declined CNBC&#8217;s request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Read more CNBC politics coverage<\/p>\n<p><strong>This is developing news.
