The \u201cBridgerton\u201d actress says the February incident triggered lasting anxiety and agoraphobia.<\/p>\n<p>Chenneour was at Joe &amp; the Juice in West London, meeting her ex-boyfriend, when a man snatched her phone. She told \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/aL6TOGMTQw4?si=NWzNnCEIkNH8DovH\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">This Morning<\/a>\u201d hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard in June that it was instinct to react quickly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey were going back and forth trying to find a target, and they chose me,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Chenneour tried to grab her phone back, not realizing how long the confrontation would last. At that moment, she thought it lasted about 20 seconds. Straight Facts\u2122.\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-san-app-download__subtitle\">\n\t\t\tPoint phone camera here\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt went around the corner, and it turned into a full-on scrap with two people,\u201d she said. \u201cI was threatened with being stabbed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Blackout and aftermath<\/p>\n<p>During the struggle, something struck Chenneour in the head, causing a brief blackout.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt went black. I don\u2019t know what hit me, but something hit me,\u201d she told the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/cg4xkp30y6ro\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BBC<\/a> in a Tuesday, Aug. 5, article. \u201cThen it carried on, and I ended up on his back with my arm around his neck.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She says she regained awareness just as someone shouted that police had arrived.<\/p>\n<p>The trauma left Chenneour with a concussion and lingering psychological damage, including agoraphobia, an anxiety disorder marked by intense fear of being in situations where escape might be difficult.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t want to leave the house. And then if I did leave the house, I wanted to be with someone,\u201d she explained. \u201cBut I felt like a burden. That\u2019s a really dark downward spiral that you can find yourself in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One attacker sentenced<\/p>\n<p>In July, police arrested 18-year-old Zacariah Boulares in connection with the attack. He is now serving a 22-month sentence, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/uk\/crime\/article\/zacariah-boulares-thief-criminal-history-6ktdgrm03\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The London Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Boulares has a lengthy criminal record. Since the age of 12, he has been convicted of 32 offenses \u2014 including two assaults on police officers.<\/p>\n<p>A second suspect remains unidentified, which Chenneour says has left a lasting psychological impact.<\/p>\n<p>Living with trauma<\/p>\n<p>Following the attack, Chenneour says she now has concerns for her safety living in West London.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI no longer feel safe calling West London home as a single woman,\u201d she told the BBC. She now stays in hotels when returning to the city for work and no longer uses public transportation. She\u2019s also exploring therapy options to help her manage the mental toll.<\/p>\n<p>Chenneour praised both the caf\u00e9 staff and responding officers for their immediate help. However, she criticized the lack of long-term support from the Metropolitan Police.<\/p>\n<p>Agoraphobia among public figures<\/p>\n<p>Agoraphobia has impacted many public figures, including Zac Efron, Prince Harry and tennis star Naomi Osaka. The <a href=\"https:\/\/my.clevelandclinic.org\/health\/diseases\/15769-agoraphobia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cleveland Clinic<\/a> defines the disorder as a fear of situations that may feel overwhelming or hard to escape.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nimh.nih.gov\/health\/statistics\/agoraphobia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Institute of Mental Health<\/a>, an estimated 1.3% of U.S. adults experience it at some time in their lives.<\/p>\n<p>Kim Kardashian has spoken out about possibly having the disorder <a href=\"https:\/\/san.com\/cc\/kim-kardashian-testifies-in-paris-robbery-trial-says-she-feared-for-her-life\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">following her Paris robbery<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cDefinitely would stay in, hated to go out,\u201d she said in a clip of \u201cKeeping Up With The Kardashians\u201d in 2021. \u201cI didn\u2019t want anyone to know where I was or be seen\u2026 I just had such anxiety.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In his memoir, \u201cSpare,\u201d Prince Harry details how \u201cimpossible\u201d the disorder was given his public role. According to an excerpt obtained by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.today.com\/health\/mind-body\/agoraphobia-anxiety-disorder-rcna64615\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NBC News<\/a>, Prince Harry recalls \u201cone speech, which couldn\u2019t be avoided or canceled, and during which I\u2019d nearly fainted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Actor Zac Efron hasn\u2019t spoken out much about the disorder, but told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/entertainment\/a40956681\/zac-efron-greatest-beer-run-ever-interview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Men\u2019s Health<\/a> in 2022, \u201cI just don\u2019t go out,\u201d adding that large groups of people trigger his agoraphobia.<\/p>\n<p>Members within the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buzzfeed.com\/aylasmith\/here-are-some-things-that-people-with-agoraphobia-want-you\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BuzzFeed<\/a> community have also spoken out about their agoraphobia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy agoraphobia manifests in situations where I feel I can\u2019t escape,\u201d one user told the outlet in 2024. \u201cThe subway stopping between stations, airplanes \u2013 a fear of not being able to escape the plane, traffic \u2014 if it\u2019s not moving, and elevators. I didn\u2019t have agoraphobia prior to five years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Clinical psychologist Gregory Jantz tells <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/health-news\/prince-harry-and-agoraphobia-royal-talks-mental-health-in-new-memoir#Has-agoraphobia-increased-during-the-pandemic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Healthline<\/a> there may have been an increase in agoraphobia following the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe did lockdowns, etc., and individuals who were already struggling with anxiety or depression may be a little more prone to developing agoraphobia,\u201d Jantz said.<\/p>\n<p>Agoraphobia can look different in everyone, but can lead to panic attacks, difficulty concentrating and avoidance.
