Casey Dienel<\/a>, the indie-pop artist formerly known as White Hinterland<\/a>, is back with their first new album in eight years. My Heart Is an Outlaw<\/a> is out October 17 via Jealous Butcher<\/a>. The Massachusetts-based singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist has shared lead single \u201cYour Girl\u2019s Upstairs,\u201d along with a video directed by Alex Basco Koch<\/a> featuring behind-the-scenes footage of the recording sessions. \u201cYour Girl\u2019s Upstairs\u201d features Hand Habits\u2019 Meg Duffy on guitar and, lyrically, tackles the autonomous and emotional labor that goes into intimacy. \u201cThe whole point of my queerness is to live within an alterity, to invent my own future on my own terms,\u201d explained Dienel. \u201cI hate living with people, but I like loving on them. What\u2019s a horny dad to do? These unreconciled contradictions inside duel it out, but none win. I am all of them: an incorrigible flirt, a romantic, a cranky homebody, and an unapologetic perv.\u201d<\/p>\n

My Heart Is an Outlaw follows 2017\u2019s Imitation of a Woman to Love, which was released as Casey Dienel, and 2014\u2019s Baby<\/a>, which came out under their White Hinterland moniker. The 11-song LP marked a new embrace of collaborators for Dienel, who tapped Adam Schatz to produce, Spencer Zahn for bass, guitarists Carly Bond of Meernaa and the aforementioned Duffy, drummer Max Jaffe, mixing engineer Jake Aron, and mastering engineer Heba Kadry.<\/p>\n
