According to the official NFL transaction wire, former Detroit Lions safety Tracy Walker has been suspended for the first 12 games of the 2025 NFL season. Walker is currently a free agent, and if he decides to sign with a team, he can participate in training camp and preseason, but his suspension will take effect after the 53-man cutdown date on August 26. The transaction wire does not give a reason for Walker\u2019s suspension.<\/p>\n
Walker was drafted by the Lions in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft. After a year as a reserve, he not only became a starter, but a key member of the Lions defense. After three years as a starter, Walker received a three-year, $25 million contract extension from the Lions. Unfortunately for Walker, he would end up suffering a season-ending Achilles injury just three weeks into the season.<\/p>\n
When Walker returned from injury, he just wasn\u2019t the same. He had also found himself surpassed on the depth chart by two newly-drafted players (Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch), along with free-agent signing C.J. Gardner-Johnson.<\/p>\n
The Lions eventually released Walker in February of 2024. He did end up signing with the San Francisco 49ers in training camp, but was released at cutdowns. He spent about a month on their practice squad before being released outright.<\/p>\n
