{"id":12533,"date":"2025-06-25T04:03:10","date_gmt":"2025-06-25T04:03:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/12533\/"},"modified":"2025-06-25T04:03:10","modified_gmt":"2025-06-25T04:03:10","slug":"andy-roddick-says-what-carlos-alcaraz-does-on-grass-which-is-just-like-roger-federer-and-different-to-rafael-nadal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/12533\/","title":{"rendered":"Andy Roddick says what Carlos Alcaraz does on grass which is just like Roger Federer and different to Rafael Nadal"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Carlos Alcaraz continues to impress on the grass as he prepares to defend his Wimbledon title.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Just nine days after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/jannik-sinner-reflects-on-the-roland-garros-final-against-carlos-alcaraz-one-week-on\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alcaraz beat Jannik Sinner<\/a> in the French Open final, he returned to action, kicking off his grass-court campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Immediately finding his footing on grass, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/jiri-lehecka-sends-message-to-carlos-alcaraz-on-social-media-after-losing-to-him-in-the-final-of-queens\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alcaraz won the Queen\u2019s Club Championships<\/a>, defeating Jiri Lehecka in the final 7-5, 6-7, 6-2.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/GettyImages-2220743878-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Carlos Alcaraz poses with the trophy after winning the 2025 Queen's Club Championships\" class=\"wp-image-104354\" \/>Photo by Shaun Brooks \u2013 CameraSport via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The win strengthened Alcaraz\u2019s position as the favorite to win <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/wimbledon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wimbledon<\/a> next month, as he did in 2023 and 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to the Spaniard\u2019s win at Queen\u2019s, Andy Roddick highlighted how <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/carlos-alcaraz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alcaraz<\/a> is similar to Roger Federer and different from Rafael Nadal on grass.<\/p>\n<p>Andy Roddick says Carlos Alcaraz is \u2018Roger Federer-esque\u2019 on grass courts<\/p>\n<p>During the latest episode of Served with Andy Roddick, the former world number one explained how impressed he is with the Spaniard on grass.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the most impressive thing about it and even Rafa [Nadal] had to work at it and be a little bit more intentional about this than Carlos [Alcaraz] does, going from clay to grass,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/andy-roddick\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Roddick<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not saying he\u2019s better than Rafa. I am just saying that on clay you have to take different angles to the ball, you usually have to back track and then go in. But the lines he takes to the ball are never wrong.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf he wants to cut one off, it\u2019s like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/roger-federer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Roger [Federer]<\/a>-esque. Roger, on his forehand, never took a bad angle or a bad line to the ball in stride. He is able to read the pacing, adjust his footwork, and then either transition off the forehand in or not.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe reads all of that in half a second. He is so good at his angles to the ball. You never really see that awkward grass court out of position that you see with the rest of us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/GettyImages-2221144916-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Carlos Alcaraz hits a backhand against Jiri Lehecka at the 2025 Queen's Club Championships\" class=\"wp-image-104834\" \/>Photo by Shaun Brooks \u2013 CameraSport via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Roddick went on to suggest Alcaraz\u2019s greatest rival, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sinner<\/a>, is struggling with that very issue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven [Jannik] Sinner, you feel, is finding that \u2013 when to take the line and when to take it on and when to go back.
