{"id":125740,"date":"2025-08-07T07:26:22","date_gmt":"2025-08-07T07:26:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/125740\/"},"modified":"2025-08-07T07:26:22","modified_gmt":"2025-08-07T07:26:22","slug":"trump-highlights-apples-plans-to-invest-100-billion-more-in-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/125740\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump highlights Apple&#8217;s plans to invest $100 billion more in US"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON (AP) \u2014 Apple CEO Tim Cook joined President <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/donald-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Donald Trump<\/a> at the White House on Wednesday to announce a commitment by the tech company to increase its investment in U.S. manufacturing by an additional $100 billion over the next four years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a significant step toward the ultimate goal of ensuring that iPhones sold in the United States of America also are made in America,\u201d Trump said at the press conference. \u201cToday\u2019s announcement is one of the largest commitments in what has become among the greatest investment booms in our nation\u2019s history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As part of the <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/www.apple.com\/newsroom\/2025\/08\/apple-increases-us-commitment-to-600-billion-usd-announces-ambitious-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Apple announcement<\/a>, the investments will be about bringing more of its supply chain and advanced manufacturing to the United States as part of an initiative called the American Manufacturing Program, but it is not a full commitment to build its popular iPhone device domestically.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis includes new and expanded work with 10 companies across America. They produce components \u2014 semiconductor chips included \u2014 that are used in Apple products sold all over the world, and we\u2019re grateful to the President for his support,\u201d Cook said in a statement announcing the investment.<\/p>\n<p>The new manufacturing partners include Corning, Coherent, Applied Materials, Texas Instruments and Broadcom among others. <\/p>\n<p>Apple had previously said it <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/apple-us-investment-texas-factory-78c761e50f3f3f8186db99899efefb7c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">intended to invest $500 billion<\/a> domestically, a figure it will now increase to $600 billion. Trump in recent months has criticized the tech company and Cook for efforts to shift iPhone production to India to avoid <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-xi-jinping-china-trade-taiwan-94f523cbb184be7819f8b78a3b951c9c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the tariffs<\/a> his Republican administration had planned for China.<\/p>\n<p>While in Qatar earlier this year, Trump said there was \u201ca little problem\u201d with the Cupertino, California, company and recalled a conversation with Cook in which he said he told the CEO, \u201cI don\u2019t want you building in India.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>India has incurred Trump\u2019s wrath, as the president signed an order Wednesday to put <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-india-russia-oil-tariffs-2db9dc22d7b56624bdceb2e15c134d60\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an additional 25% tariff<\/a> on the world\u2019s most populous country for its use of <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-russia-oil-china-turkey-f377653aebf6d5a34a09a7466d85fd56\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Russian oil<\/a>. The new import taxes to be imposed in 21 days could put the combined tariffs on Indian goods at 50%.<\/p>\n<p>Apple\u2019s new pledge comes just a few weeks after it <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/mp-materials-rare-earths-trump-china-7efe8b903b9668433d7c0a60be50b8c9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">forged a $500 million deal with MP Materials<\/a>, which runs the only rare earths producer in the country. That agreement will enable MP Materials to expand a factory in Texas to use recycled materials to produce magnets that make iPhones vibrate.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on a recent investors call, Cook emphasized that \u201cthere\u2019s a load of different things done in the United States.\u201d As examples, he cited some of the iPhone components made in the U.S. such as the device\u2019s glass display and module for identifying people\u2019s faces and then indicated the company was gearing to expand its productions of other components in its home country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re doing more in this country, and that\u2019s on top of having roughly 19 billion chips coming out of the US now, and we will do more,\u201d Cook told analysts last week, without elaborating.<\/p>\n<p>News of Apple\u2019s latest investment in the U.S. caused the company\u2019s stock price to surge by 5% in Wednesday\u2019s midday trading.
