CADILLAC \u2014 Kids and families got to go on a bear hunt Wednesday in Cadillac.<\/p>\n
The first book showcased in the new Story Stroll at the west end of the Keith McKellop Walkway was \u201cWe\u2019re Going on a Bear Hunt\u201d and during a ribbon cutting event Wednesday, attendees were invited to craft special binoculars to enhance their experience.<\/p>\n
The Story Stroll is the brainchild of the Great Start Collaborative of Wexford-Missaukee-Manistee Counties, and is comprised of a series of displays showing pages from a children\u2019s story. It is located in the loop near the former Navy Reserve building at 601 Chestnut St.<\/p>\n
GSC Coordinator Deb Simon said the Story Stroll is \u201cmore than just a walk in the park.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a chance to spark imagination, encourage literacy and spend meaningful time together,\u201d Simon said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis project supports what we believe at Great Start: that early experiences matter. When children see their grown-ups reading, exploring and being present with them, it lays the foundation for a lifelong love of learning.\u201d<\/p>\n
The book, \u201cWe\u2019re Going on a Bear Hunt!,\u201d is a favorite for many families, full of adventure, rhythm and curiosity.<\/p>\n
As they walked from display to display, the book was read aloud to the kids, who were invited to move their bodies and even chant along at certain parts.<\/p>\n
In May, the Cadillac City Council approved construction of the Story Stroll, which was funded and will be maintained by the Great Start Collaborative. The story in the panels will be changed once a month.<\/p>\n
