Sony Xperia phones make up just a tiny fraction of the overall smartphone market, and the brand isn\u2019t exactly exuding confidence in its future. Sony, however, says that Xperia is a \u201cvery important\u201d part of its business and that it will continue to \u201cnuture\u201d it.<\/p>\n
During Sony\u2019s latest financial results presentation this week, Sony CFO Lin Tao addressed the state of its Xperia smartphone brand, saying that Xperia is part of \u201ca very important business for us\u201d as reported by CNET Japan<\/a> (translated).<\/p>\n Tao said that \u201ccommunication technology is a very important technology that Sony has cultivated for a long time. We also want to continue to value our smartphone business.\u201d Though adding that \u201ccommunication technology is used in areas other than smartphones.\u201d<\/p>\n This comes not long after rumors that Sony is pulling back<\/a> on its efforts to sell Xperia smartphones in Europe. The company has also lost a lot of ground in its home country of Japan<\/a>, largely pulled out of the US market<\/a>, and earlier this year stopped manufacturing its own devices<\/a>.
