{"id":127111,"date":"2025-08-07T19:24:17","date_gmt":"2025-08-07T19:24:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/127111\/"},"modified":"2025-08-07T19:24:17","modified_gmt":"2025-08-07T19:24:17","slug":"hillarys-dog-beach-closed-indefinitely-after-wild-weather-exposes-dangerous-debris-asbestos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/127111\/","title":{"rendered":"Hillarys Dog Beach closed indefinitely after wild weather exposes dangerous debris, asbestos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Concerns over asbestos contamination have forced a popular dog beach in <a class=\"css-445i33-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.perthnow.com.au\/wa\/perth\" rel=\"noopener\">Perth\u2019s<\/a> <a class=\"css-445i33-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.perthnow.com.au\/wa\/perth\/north\" rel=\"noopener\">north<\/a> to close until further notice, after erosion caused by last week\u2019s wild weather exposed dangerous debris beneath the sand.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">To ensure the safety of beachgoers, the City of Joondalup announced that Hillarys Dog Beach would be off-limits from 1 pm today, following the discovery of building debris and other hazardous materials along the shoreline, as well as the formation of steep embankments across much of the area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">It\u2019s believed the debris comes from old beach shacks that once lined the coastline from Whitfords Beach to Pinnaroo Point between the 1950s and 1970s, which were made from asbestos sheeting and corrugated iron.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/0e4ebac434149308890e1e7c6f2f21ee06696a2f.jpg\" alt=\"Erosion caused by last week\u2019s wild weather at Hillarys Dog Beach.\" class=\"css-16r7l45-StyledImage en5ut4d0\"\/>Camera IconErosion caused by last week\u2019s wild weather at Hillarys Dog Beach. Credit: Supplied<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Licensed asbestos experts have been called out to work closely with the city to manage and safely remove any contaminated material, as heavy machinery is used to clear the debris that may include asbestos or other dangerous materials.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The city has prohibited access to the affected beach area, which will remain closed until further notice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cThe city appreciates the public\u2019s understanding and cooperation as we work to restore the area.
