(File photo courtesy of the FBI)<\/p>\n<p>An anti-human trafficking sting held during this year\u2019s San Diego Comic-Con International weekend resulted in 13 arrests of people seeking to purchase sex, the <a href=\"https:\/\/oag.ca.gov\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">California Attorney General\u2019s Office<\/a> said Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>From July 24 to 26, the operation was conducted by law enforcement officers working undercover \u201cto initiate contact with sex buyers throughout San Diego County.\u201d The 13 people were arrested on suspicion of solicitation.<\/p>\n<p>The operation is conducted annually during Comic-Con weekend, which resulted last year in 14 alleged sex buyer arrests and the recovery of 10 potential sex trafficking victims.<\/p>\n<p>The California AG\u2019s office said that though commercial sex isn\u2019t always linked to human trafficking, the demand can spur traffickers to exploit and coerce victims into sex work.<\/p>\n<p>California Attorney General Rob Bonta said in a statement, \u201cSolicitation is a crime, and these arrests send a clear message to potential offenders that we stand ready to hold them accountable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The operation was conducted by the multi-agency <a href=\"https:\/\/oag.ca.gov\/bi\/httf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">San Diego Human Trafficking Task Force<\/a>, composed of federal and state law enforcement agencies and prosecutorial offices.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"An officer talks with a sex trafficking victim.
