The FCC, CBS, Paramount and the Trump administration can suck it \u2014 or at least that was the sentiment on Wednesday night\u2019s episode of \u201cThe Late Show With Stephen Colbert<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

As usual, host Colbert tackled the day\u2019s news in his opening monologue \u2014 but things took a turn into the unusual when Colbert responded to Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr.<\/a>\u2019s announcement Tuesday that he\u2019s canceling $500 million in funding for vaccine development<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cBad news for fans of living,\u201d Colbert began before explaining Kennedy\u2019s announcement to his audience. <\/p>\n

\u201cNow, we have 10 more months of this show, and I want to give a measured, nonpartisan response here: Fuck you, you roid-addled nepo carnie!\u201d Colbert said while flipping the bird on network TV.<\/p>\n

After the audience erupted with applause, Colbert continued by explaining that Kennedy\u2019s cuts were specifically aimed at 22 projects that are using mRNA technology to develop vaccines for respiratory viruses like COVID-19 and the flu. Infectious disease experts credit mRNA for slowing the 2020 coronavirus pandemic, the Associated Press reports<\/a>. They say that mRNA is safe and failing to use the tech could result in difficulty quelling future pandemics.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think I\u2019ve seen a more dangerous decision in public health in my 50 years in the business,\u201d said Mike Osterholm, a University of Minnesota expert on infectious diseases and pandemic preparations, told the AP.<\/p>\n

Colbert then played a clip of Kennedy defending his decision, and when the clip ended, Colbert said:<\/p>\n

\u201cCounterpoint: Fuck you, you roadkill-munching Luddite human Slim Jim!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re going to kill people!\u201d Colbert added, noting the National Library of Medicine reported<\/a> that an estimated 14.4 million deaths were prevented thanks to the vaccines developed during the 2020 coronavirus pandemic. <\/p>\n

Colbert\u2019s F-bomb-filled tirade seems to be indicative of his general IDGAF attitude since he announced in July that CBS was canceling \u201cThe Late Show\u201d<\/a> and the decades-long \u201cLate Show\u201d franchise.
