{"id":128268,"date":"2025-08-08T05:36:10","date_gmt":"2025-08-08T05:36:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/128268\/"},"modified":"2025-08-08T05:36:10","modified_gmt":"2025-08-08T05:36:10","slug":"six-year-old-girl-dies-of-influenza-after-twice-being-discharged-from-sydney-hospital-health","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/128268\/","title":{"rendered":"Six-year-old girl dies of influenza after twice being discharged from Sydney hospital | Health"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">A six-year-old girl has died of the flu at Northern Beaches hospital after being twice sent home from the Sydney Children\u2019s hospital, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/australia-news\/new-south-wales\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New South Wales<\/a> health minister has said her parents \u201cdeserve answers\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">The girl presented to the emergency department at the Sydney Children\u2019s hospital in Randwick on Monday and was discharged after a clinical assessment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">A spokesperson for the Sydney Children\u2019s Hospitals Network (SCHN) said she presented again \u201cshortly after\u201d and was diagnosed with influenza.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/email-newsletters?CMP=copyembed&amp;CMP=emailbutton\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sign up: AU Breaking News email<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">She was then discharged with at-home guidance, the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">The girl was later admitted to the Northern Beaches hospital where she died on Tuesday, police confirmed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">The SCHN spokesperson said upon learning of the girl\u2019s death, \u201cthey expressed their deepest condolences to the family for the loss of their child\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">The hospital network will be conducting an initial review into the patient\u2019s care while at the Randwick hospital, and will work with the Northern Sydney Local <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/australia-news\/health\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Health<\/a> District as part of the joint independent clinical governance process.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">The NSW health minister, Ryan Park, said: \u201cI\u2019m heartbroken to learn of the death of a child following presentation to Sydney Children\u2019s hospital in Randwick and Northern Beaches hospital.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">\u201cI wish to express my deepest condolences to the family for their devastating loss,\u201d Park said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">\u201cI want to understand how and why this tragedy has occurred and the parents deserve answers,\u201d Park said.
