The 100 Club of Arizona is calling on local singers to help kick off this year\u2019s 9\/11 Tower Challenge with a stirring performance of the National Anthem.<\/p>\n
Arizona residents of all ages are invited to submit a video or link of themselves singing \u201cThe Star-Spangled Banner\u201d to marisha@100club.org<\/a> for a chance to perform live at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale. The winning singer will take the arena floor on Saturday, Sept. 6, performing in front of thousands of first responders, supporters, and participants.<\/p>\n The deadline to enter is Thursday, Aug. 14, and the winner will be announced on Friday, Aug. 15.<\/p>\n The performance will open the 9\/11 Tower Challenge, a powerful annual tribute to the first responders who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001, as well as those who continue to serve today.<\/p>\n Thousands to climb 2,071 steps in remembrance of 9\/11<\/p>\n Thousands of Arizonans are expected to gather at Desert Diamond Arena on Sept. 6 for the 9\/11 Tower Challenge. Participants will climb 2,071 steps\u2014the same number in each of the Twin Towers\u2014to honor the 343 firefighters, 71 law enforcement officers, and eight paramedics who died at the World Trade Center.<\/p>\n Photos of the fallen first responders will line the stairways, giving climbers the opportunity to pause and reflect on each individual\u2019s sacrifice.<\/p>\n Proceeds from the event benefit the 100 Club of Arizona, a nonprofit organization that provides financial assistance and resources to first responders and their families during times of tragedy. The organization also offers wellness programs and safety equipment to first responders across the state.<\/p>\n Registration is $45 and includes entry to the stair climb. For children under 16 or those unable to complete the stairs, a four-lap \u201cWalk and Roll\u201d around the arena concourse\u2014also totaling 2,071 steps\u2014is available for $40.
