For years, politicians and environmental organizations have been needlessly stoking fears about a technology that has been helping to conserve resources and the environment for decades, and that has made food and cosmetics better and more tolerable. It\u2019s time to put an end to this consumer deception.<\/p>\n
If you ask a customer or even a store manager what the \u201cNo GMO\u201d label means while shopping, most of them don\u2019t know. \u201cThere are no genes in it\u201d or \u201cThe cows\/chickens\/eggs are not genetically modified\u201d are the standard answers. But everyone agrees: \u201cIt\u2019s probably healthier or better somehow, otherwise it wouldn\u2019t be on the label.\u201d Skepticism about genetic engineering is deeply rooted.<\/p>\n

No wonder, since for decades the public has been bombarded with terms like \u201cgenetically contaminated,\u201d \u201cgenetically modified,\u00a0\u201d \u201cgenetically modified soy,\u201d and \u201cFrankenstein corn,\u201d<\/a>\u00a0and hardly an article about genetic engineering is published without the \u201cbiohazard\u201d warning sign \u2026.<\/p>\n This has little to do with reality. Genetic engineering is\u00a0just as indispensable in industry and crafts as it is in research laboratories and ordinary households<\/a>.<\/p>\n
