SAN ANTONIO<\/strong> \u2013 A voice was missing when Max Baca sang \u201cMe voy lejos\u201d at the Carver Community Cultural Center Thursday night.<\/p>\n

But through the sound of the accordion and the rhythm of Conjunto music, the legacy of Flaco Jimenez<\/a> lived on. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe was one of our greats,\u201d said Juan Tejeda, the founder of the Tejano Conjunto Festival.<\/p>\n

Thursday night, family, friends and fans of Flaco filled the Carver to remember his life<\/a>. He passed away on July 31 at the age of 86.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn life, I loved you dearly,\u201d Jimenez\u2019s daughter Raquel Fernandez said. \u201cIn death, I love you still. In my heart, you have a place no one else can fill.\u201d<\/p>\n

His celebration of life brought people together from across the globe.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was a pioneer,\u201d fan George Fernandez said. \u201cHe brought Tejano music into the limelight.\u201d <\/p>\n

His family<\/a> called the memorial service on Thursday not a final goodbye. Instead, they termed it Flaco\u2019s \u201cfinal curtain call.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI know he\u2019s in a better place,\u201d Flaco\u2019s son Arturo Jimenez said. \u201cI\u2019m gonna miss him.\u201d<\/p>\n
