Greg Abbott <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/politics\/2025\/06\/21\/gov-abbott-signs-ten-commandments-bill-mandating-displays-in-texas-classrooms\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/politics\/2025\/06\/21\/gov-abbott-signs-ten-commandments-bill-mandating-displays-in-texas-classrooms\/\">signed Senate Bill 10<\/a> on Saturday. Abbott signs Ten Commandments bill mandating displays in Texas classrooms <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">On Tuesday, the Next Generation Action Network Legal Advocacy Fund filed a lawsuit in the Northern District of Texas targeting the pending law\u2019s implementation. It argues that SB 10 violates the First Amendment and interferes with the rights of parents to lead their children\u2019s religious education. <\/p>\n<p>Political Points<\/p>\n<p class=\"dmnc_features-cta-social-cta-social-module__zWZy- mb-4\">Get the latest politics news from North Texas and beyond.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">\u201cOur schools are not theocratic temples,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo?fbid=1101625101780743&amp;set=pcb.1101625241780729\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo?fbid=1101625101780743&amp;set=pcb.1101625241780729\">a social media post<\/a> by Dominique Alexander, a plaintiff in the lawsuit who is also the president and CEO of NGAN.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">\u201cOur pulpits must stay free of state mandates. Our children deserve education, not indoctrination.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Other plaintiffs named in the suit include several Christian and Muslim parents as well as their minor children enrolled in the Dallas, DeSoto and Lancaster Independent School Districts. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">The lawsuit lists these school districts and Texas Education Agency Commissioner Mike Morath as defendants. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">In a statement to The Dallas Morning News, DeSoto ISD said it is \u201cclosely monitoring the legal proceedings and guidance\u201d around SB 10. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">\u201cAs a public school district, DeSoto ISD operates in alignment with all applicable district and state policies, and state and federal laws,\u201d the statement said. \u201cThe district remains committed to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and supportive learning environment for all students and families, regardless of religious background or personal beliefs.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">The News didn\u2019t immediately receive a response from TEA, Dallas ISD and Lancaster ISD Tuesday night.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Besides this effort, other rights groups have also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/politics\/2025\/06\/21\/gov-abbott-signs-ten-commandments-bill-mandating-displays-in-texas-classrooms\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/politics\/2025\/06\/21\/gov-abbott-signs-ten-commandments-bill-mandating-displays-in-texas-classrooms\/\">threatened to sue<\/a> as they called SB 10 \u201cblatantly unconstitutional.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Matt Krause, an attorney with First Liberty Institute, has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/politics\/2025\/06\/21\/gov-abbott-signs-ten-commandments-bill-mandating-displays-in-texas-classrooms\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/politics\/2025\/06\/21\/gov-abbott-signs-ten-commandments-bill-mandating-displays-in-texas-classrooms\/\">previously expressed confidence to The News<\/a> that the pending law would be upheld. He also compared the Ten Commandments to other historic U.S. documents such as the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Staff writer Nolan D.
