Enzo Maresca was seen in conversation with Chelsea sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart after telling the media he wanted a new centre back according to journalist Nizaar Kinsella.<\/p>\n

Chelsea put in an impressive performance on Friday night as they beat Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 at Stamford Bridge in their first pre-season friendly.<\/p>\n

Estevao Willian scored on his first appearance for the club, whilst Joao Pedro added a second with virtually the last kick of the game.<\/p>\n

Enzo Maresca wants a new centre back<\/p>\n

All the talk ahead of the game had been centred around the loss of Levi Colwill for the majority of the season to an ACL injury.<\/a><\/p>\n

In Colwill\u2019s absence Maresca started with Trevoh Chalobah and Josh Acheampong, with Tosin Adarabioyo coming on at half time, and Aaron Anselmino making an appearance late on.<\/p>\n

It had been reported Chelsea weren\u2019t sure about signing another centre back, and they had confidence in their squad.<\/p>\n

However, Maresca said after the game he wanted a new centre back,<\/a> and it will be interesting to see if the club back him with one.<\/p>\n

After making those comments, Kinsella shared what he saw Maresca doing whilst the players were walking round the pitch with the trophy.<\/p>\n

He took to X.com<\/a> and said:<\/p>\n

\u201cInteresting quotes, just after Maresca was talking to the two sporting directors as Chelsea players paraded the Malta trophy around Stamford Bridge.\u201d<\/p>\n

Renato Veiga unlikely to reintegrated<\/p>\n

With the injury to Colwill there had been talk of whether Renato Veiga could be reintegrated to the squad, and used as a viable option.<\/p>\n

Vegia wanted to leave in January in order to go and play regular minutes at centre back, and there\u2019s now an opening at Chelsea to do that.<\/p>\n
