(File photo by Chris Jennewein\/Times of San Diego)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/amazon.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Amazon<\/a> is raising the curtain on its state-of-the-art robots with free tours of a giant fulfillment center in Otay Mesa.<\/p>\n<p>The company announced this week that the tours will be available at the center on 6971 Otay Mesa Road.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are thrilled to bring Amazon Tours to more customers around the world,\u201d said Nick Boone-Lutz, who leads the public tours program at Amazon. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese tours offer a unique opportunity to see our cutting-edge robotics and AI in action, and meet the incredible people who make it all possible,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The tours for visitors aged six and up are available Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>During the guided tours, visitors will see three types of robotic systems in action:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Mobile drive units that navigate the warehouse floor, transporting shelves of products directly to employees at ergonomic workstations, reducing the need for workers to walk long distances and enhancing efficiency.<\/li>\n<li>Robotic arms that handle repetitive tasks such as picking, stowing and sorting items. These robots work alongside employees to streamline operations and improve safety.<\/li>\n<li>Automated guided vehicles that transport packages across the fulfillment center, ensuring timely movement of goods and reducing manual handling.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Amazon said the robots that visitors will see are part of a broader strategy to enhance workplace safety, improve operational efficiency, and support employees by automating repetitive tasks.<\/p>\n<p>To schedule a tour or learn more, visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazontours.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">www.amazontours.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Package-carrying robots await their orders at Amazon\u2019s SNA3 fulfillment center in Otay Mesa.
