Now that the Project Blue fiasco is possibly over, it is time for Tucson movers and shakers to quit developing economic projects that more fit Maricopa County.<\/p>\n
Pima County isn’t Maricopa County.<\/p>\n
First, Maricopa County has a half-dozen federal dams built in the early 1900s to control flooding and provide water. Due to geography, there is no comparison for Pima County.<\/p>\n
Second, Because of I-10, Phoenix is a better direct route to and from the very rich Los Angeles metro area. Tucson is more in line with San Diego.<\/p>\n
Third, Pima County in the 1960s was already losing population proportion to Maricopa County. Where once Pima County had a third of the state\u2019s population, it now has about 12%. That proportional loss will continue.<\/p>\n
Fourth, centralization of power has been concentrating in Maricopa County for years. The state, in essence, started remote working when it closed its Tucson offices about 2008.<\/p>\n

Let’s work on cross-border economic development that, due to Tucson’s location, Phoenix can’t match.<\/p>\n
