Thanks to the progress across the board, they’re in a position to deal with it before the season kicks off.

Keeper remains big question for Chelsea

There is still one big question mark though – in goal.

Time and again we’ve heard that the club are happy with the options they’ve got, but two things hugely undermine that.

Firstly the performances of Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen, who both have games and moments in games where they look like they’re going to ruin things for their team. Despite a good season overall, there’s no doubt they now look like the weakest part of the team, and the one that could most easily be upgraded.

Secondly, the attempts Chelsea made to sign Mike Maignan earlier this summer, showing they’re not as convinced as they say.

Links to elite, high price keeper sound ficticious

These flaws mean that the Blues continue to be linked with new goalkeepers, with today’s example the return of chatter about Gigi Donnarumma.

ESPN claim the PSG stopper has already been the subject of offers from the Blues and Man U. The Italian keeper wants a raise on his £850k a month wages, and the Parisians aren’t willing to give it to him.

The rumour may as well end there. If PSG aren’t going to pay it, nor are Chelsea. The sporting directors have spent a lot of effort in trying to bring down our wages bill, and still have the likes of Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell stuck on it.

The last thing they’re likely to do now is add a goalkeeper on massive wages.

We may yet sign a goalkeeper – just don’t expect it to be Donnarumma.

Chelsea’s summer has gone really well in terms of continuing to improve their squad.
