{"id":133429,"date":"2025-08-10T04:08:07","date_gmt":"2025-08-10T04:08:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/133429\/"},"modified":"2025-08-10T04:08:07","modified_gmt":"2025-08-10T04:08:07","slug":"photos-show-august-2025-full-moon-dazzling-in-night-sky","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/133429\/","title":{"rendered":"Photos show August 2025 full moon dazzling in night sky"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week marked the arrival of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/nation\/2025\/08\/05\/august-2025-full-moon-date-and-time\/85527807007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sturgeon Moon<\/a>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/life\/horoscopes\/2025\/08\/09\/sturgeon-august-full-moon-horoscopes-zodiac-signs\/85559750007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">moon rising<\/a> that wows <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/graphics\/2025\/08\/08\/planetary-alignment-august-2025\/85575867007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stargazing enthusiasts<\/a> in the Northern Hemisphere each year.<\/p>\n<p>Named after a massive fish that traces back <a href=\"https:\/\/www.almanac.com\/content\/full-moon-august\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">136 million years ago<\/a> and was once bountiful in the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain, the Sturgeon Moon rises each year in August.<\/p>\n<p>This month, the full moon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/nation\/2025\/08\/08\/august-2025-full-moon-sturgeon\/85556941007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">peaked just before 4 a.m. ET<\/a> on Saturday morning, Aug. 9. But Americans have been treated to a bright light in the night sky for a few days now, as Earth&#8217;s neighbor has appeared completely illuminated by direct sunlight since <a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/moon\/moon-phases\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">entering its &#8220;full&#8221; phase this week<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Viewers saw the Sturgeon Moon approach its peak when it began to shine after sunset Friday evening, Aug. 8, which came a few minutes after 8 p.m. local time in New York City, according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeanddate.com\/sun\/usa\/new-york\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Time and Date<\/a>.\u00a0Elsewhere in the country, onlookers got a better glimpse after sunset times around 7:21 p.m. in Phoenix, 7:46 p.m. in Los Angeles, and 7:59 p.m. in Chicago.<\/p>\n<p>Take a look at this year\u2019s Sturgeon Moon as it shined in the night sky this year.<\/p>\n<p>See photos of the August 2025 full moon<\/p>\n<p>Saleen Martin is a reporter on USA TODAY&#8217;s NOW team.
