Following the conclusion of a standout college career in May, Brooke Biermann is making more noise on the national stage.<\/p>\n
The former Michigan State standout won her semifinal match on Saturday to advance to the final of the 125th U.S. Women\u2019s Amateur at Bandon Dunes Golf Course in Oregon. Biermann will play Stanford senior Megha Ganne in a 36-hole championship on Sunday (12:45 p.m., Golf Channel) attempting to be the first Spartan to win the U.S. Women\u2019s Amateur.<\/p>\n
Biermann, who qualified to play in the U.S. Women\u2019s Open two months ago<\/a>, was 3 up with three holes to play against Kansas junior Lyla Louderbaugh in Saturday\u2019s semifinal. Louderbaugh rallied to win three straight and send the match to extra holes before Biermann shook off the near collapse to win on the 19th hole. <\/p>\n \u201cComing down the stretch she threw everything she had, which was great golf,\u201d Biermann said, \u201cand with that, you just have to stay calm and also like I guess only focus on what I can control.\u201d<\/p>\n It was Biermann\u2019s third win of the week in extra holes, including going to 22 in the second round, and she\u2019s one victory away from a stunning conclusion to her amateur career. Michigan State\u2019s James Piot won the 2021 U.S. Amateur following his senior season.<\/p>\n Biermann, a Missouri native, has her dad, Bill, on the bag as caddie this week. In her four seasons at Michigan State, the Spartans reached the NCAA Championships three times.
