Dallas Cowboys star linebacker\u00a0Micah Parsons<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0shocked the NFL world last Friday by\u00a0publicly requesting a trade<\/a> on\u00a0Twitter\/X<\/a>. The trade request came after contract negotiations between Parsons and the Cowboys had reached an impasse over recent weeks.\u00a0Dallas Cowboys owner\/president Jerry Jones<\/strong> however quickly shot this down,\u00a0revealing that Dallas has absolutely \u2018no intention\u2019 of honoring Parsons\u2019 trade request<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Cowboys EVP\u00a0Stephen Jones<\/strong>, brother of Jerry Jones<\/strong>, reaffirmed this notion prior to Dallas\u2019 preseason opener against the Los Angeles Rams Saturday night. Jones joined the Cowboys pregame show and once again completely shut down any possibility of a trade that involves Parsons.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s the nature of the negotiation,\u201d Jones said. \u201cIf you look at any negotiations around the league right now\u2026I think they\u2019ve all negotiated a trade. We have no intention of trading Micah.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately, I no longer want to be here,\u201d Parsons\u00a0wrote on Twitter\/X last Friday afternoon<\/a>. \u201cI no longer want to be held to closed door negotiations without my agent present. I no longer want shots taken at me for getting injured while laying it on the line for the organization, our fans and my teammates. I no longer want narratives created and spread to the media about me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since entering the NFL via the 2021 Draft out of\u00a0Penn State<\/a><\/strong>, Parsons has evolved into one of the best defensive players in the league. Over his four years with the Cowboys, Parsons has been named a two-time First Team All-Pro, a one-time Second Team All-Pro and a four-time Pro Bowler. The star linebacker will head into the 2025 season on the final year of his rookie contract.<\/p>\n

Parsons claims that Dallas won\u2019t speak with agent about contract<\/p>\n

Standout defensive players around the league, such as New York Jets cornerback\u00a0Sauce Gardner<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end\u00a0T.J. Watt<\/a><\/strong>, have received lucrative contracts in recent weeks. However, Parsons remains unsigned and now wants to continue his NFL journey elsewhere.<\/p>\n

\u201cUp to today the team has not had a single conversation with my agent about a contract,\u201d Parsons continued. \u201cNot one demand has been made by my agent about money, years or anything else. Still, I stayed quiet but again after repeated shots at myself and all the narratives I have made a tough decision I no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys. My trade request has been submitted to Stephen Jones personally.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cowboys wide receiver\u00a0CeeDee Lamb<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0commented on the contract dispute on Saturday, revealing that he was disappointed in how the process has played out<\/a>. The former\u00a0Oklahoma<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0wide receiver signed four-year, $136 million contract extension with the Cowboys prior to the 2024 season.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like he\u2019s gonna be here,\u201d Lamb said,\u00a0via\u00a0The Athletic\u2019s\u00a0Jon Machota<\/a>. \u201cReaction was crazy. A little disappointed (in the process). But it is what it is. You gotta do what you gotta do and he\u2019s gotta do what\u2019s best for him and his family.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dallas opens the 2025 NFL season against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sep. 4. The game will kick at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock.<\/p>\n
