A man is in a critical but stable condition in hospital after allegedly being shot by his brother at a rural property on the New South Wales Mid North Coast.<\/p>\n

Emergency services were called to a rural property on Orara Way, Nana Glen, in the Coffs Harbour hinterland about 8:30pm on Saturday.<\/p>\n

They found a 22-year-old man with gunshot wounds to his chest, after a loud argument in the home before the shooting.<\/p>\n

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the man before he was flown to Gold Coast University Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.<\/p>\n

A NSW Police spokesperson confirmed the brothers both lived in the home and there were six people on the property at the time of the alleged incident.<\/p>\n

Just 30 minutes later, highway patrol officers stopped an SUV which they had pursued into a dead-end street, Carrall Close, in an outer-suburban area in nearby Coffs Harbour.<\/p>\n

Police arrested a 20-year-old man and allege they seized a rifle during a vehicle search.<\/p>\n

The man was charged with shooting with intent to murder (domestic violence), possession and use of an unauthorised firearm and ammunition, stalking and intimidation and drink driving.<\/p>\n

Coffs Harbour resident Katie Miller noticed the police activity in the street some hours after a man was arrested outside her home.<\/p>\n

“I came out about 10 o’clock last night and there was about six cop cars in the street, lights on,” Ms Miller said.<\/p>\n

“I didn’t hear any sirens or anything, but it was a very busy street last night.<\/p>\n

“It’s usually a very quiet street. We’re a cul-de-sac and we’ve got a paddock across the road.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Young mother Bree Edwards lives near the rural Nana Glen property where the shooting occurred.<\/p>\n

“I didn’t hear anything, nothing, no sirens, nothing,” Ms Edwards said.<\/p>\n

“Very occasionally we’ll hear something [gunshots], but it’s usually from one of the farms with a pest.<\/p>\n

“It is surprising, I guess I am surprised at something like this happening around this area.”<\/p>\n
