{"id":134185,"date":"2025-08-10T11:11:16","date_gmt":"2025-08-10T11:11:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/134185\/"},"modified":"2025-08-10T11:11:16","modified_gmt":"2025-08-10T11:11:16","slug":"novak-djokovic-predicted-to-skip-major-atp-tournament-for-the-second-year-in-a-row","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/134185\/","title":{"rendered":"Novak Djokovic predicted to skip major ATP tournament for the second year in a row"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>As Novak Djokovic nears the end of his career, he continues to play a reduced ATP Tour schedule.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Serbian star was last seen in action at Wimbledon when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/jannik-sinner-says-what-he-finds-amazing-about-novak-djokovic-and-reacts-to-knocking-him-out-of-wimbledon-this-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Djokovic lost to Jannik Sinner<\/a> in the semifinals.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/opinion\/jannik-sinner-and-novak-djokovic-have-just-handed-the-rest-of-the-atp-tour-a-big-opportunity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Djokovic then announced his withdrawal from the Canadian Open<\/a>, choosing to rest up before making his debut on North American hard courts.<\/p>\n<p>Extending his \u2018break\u2019, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/opinion\/what-happened-to-novak-djokovic-at-the-us-open-in-2024-makes-his-decision-to-withdraw-from-cincinnati-even-more-puzzling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Djokovic chose to skip the Cincinnati Open<\/a> as well, meaning his next tournament will be the US Open.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"700\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/GettyImages-2224659093-1024x700.jpg\" alt=\"Novak Djokovic looks on during his defeat to Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon in 2025\" class=\"wp-image-118405\" \/>Photo by Hannah Peters\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Looking ahead to the remainder of the 2025 season, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/the-two-events-novak-djokovic-is-confirmed-to-play-before-the-end-of-the-2025-season-following-his-cincinnati-withdrawal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Djokovic has only been confirmed for two events<\/a>, the US Open and the Six Kings Slam.<\/p>\n<p>Many expect him to appear at another <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/atp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ATP<\/a> tournament to finish off the year, although one popular tennis pundit isn\u2019t so sure.<\/p>\n<p>Novak Djokovic predicted to skip the ATP Finals for the second year running<\/p>\n<p>During the latest episode of \u2018Tennismania\u2019, popular Italian pundit Guido Monaco predicted the lineup for the 2025 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/atp-finals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ATP Finals<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think six spots are filled according to the rankings,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll see if <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/novak-djokovic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[Novak] Djokovic<\/a> goes, but I don\u2019t think so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For the first time since 2017 (didn\u2019t qualify), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/novak-djokovic-issues-public-statement-after-withdrawing-from-the-atp-finals-in-turin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Djokovic chose not to play the ATP Finals in 2024<\/a>, despite qualifying for the event.<\/p>\n<p>Choosing to take an extended break ahead of his 2025 campaign, Djokovic finished up his 2024 season in Saudi Arabia, at the inaugural <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/six-kings-slam\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Six Kings Slam<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Monaco thinks he\u2019ll miss the tour finals again this time around, offering up opportunities for other players to qualify in his place.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"660\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/GettyImages-2223371375-1024x660.jpg\" alt=\"Novak Djokovic looks on during his win over Alex de Minaur at Wimbledon\" class=\"wp-image-109151\" \/>Photo by Rob Newell \u2013 CameraSport via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone up to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/taylor-fritz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[Taylor] Fritz<\/a> will be there. Then we\u2019ll see [Jack] Draper, [Alex] De Minaur, and [Lorenzo] Musetti. They\u2019ll be fighting for two spots,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn any case, I think everyone up to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/holger-rune\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[Holger] Rune<\/a> is in contention. Musetti, for his part, has to make a response.<\/p>\n<p>The top eight players in the \u2018ATP Race to Turin\u2019 qualify for the year-end finals, as competition for those last few spots is already heating rankings<\/p>\n<p>Sinner and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/carlos-alcaraz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carlos Alcaraz<\/a> are the only two players to have already qualified for the event, but the likes of Alexander Zverev, Ben Shelton, and Novak Djokovic are expected to follow suit.<\/p>\n<p>If Djokovic were to withdraw from the event, it would open up a spot for the ninth-placed finisher in the \u2018ATP Race\u2019 to qualify for the ATP Finals.<\/p>\n<p>Who that may be remains to be seen, although we shouldn\u2019t be counting out a Djokovic appearance in Turin quite yet.<\/p>\n<p>The 38-year-old is the most successful player in the event\u2019s history, and would no doubt be a strong contender to lift the title, should he make the trip to Italy in November.<\/p>\n<p>Novak Djokovic\u2019s ATP Finals record<\/p>\n<p>Making his ATP Finals debut in 2007, Djokovic won his first title a year later, defeating Nikolay Davydenko in the final to lift the trophy in Shanghai.<\/p>\n<p>Over the next 15 years, Djokovic won six more titles, taking his ATP Finals tally to seven, the most of any player in tournament history.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"inline-links won his last title in 2023, when he defeated Sinner 6-3, 6-3 in the final.<\/p>\n<p>It remains to be seen if Djokovic will return in search of an eighth title in 2025, but it will certainly be
