Ruben was the owner, and Johnny was the manager. Ruben, who bought the shop from the original owner in 2017, built on the solid local following that Benny’s had already developed, before selling the restaurant last year.

“Ruben had some issues and had to let it go, but I decided to step up — we switched roles,” Johnny says.

Now with their new venture, Johnny sits in the ownership seat and Ruben serves as manager. They’re planning on opening in the next few weeks.

When it came time to do a shop, they decided to stay in the area they know and love.

“After we left Benny’s, we’d been putting our thoughts together about doing something new,” Johnny says. “We’ve always been in the Lakewood area, and we knew a lot of customers from our time at Benny’s.”

Their menu will feature 14 flavors, some standard, some creative: sesame, everything, poppy seed, garlic, onion, cinnamon raisin, blueberry, and jalapeno cheddar — but also a unique “French toast” bagel.

They won’t go too crazy on schmears: plain, onion & chives, veggie, and spinach — but they will offer a fun, one-of-a-kind Fruity Pebbles schmear.

They’ll also do bagel sandwiches including breakfast and lunch, as well as wraps and croissants. For coffee, they’ll start with drip and iced coffee, then add espresso drinks once they get rolling.

They plan on being open from 6 am to 4 pm daily.

They’ve done a little remodeling of the Urban Vines space, added a TV, and opened a window into the kitchen to faciliate orders. lt’s a 2,100-square-foot space that comes with an outdoor patio.

They’re not even open yet but they’re already getting a warm welcome.

“Residents in the building have already dropped by to say they’re looking forward to having a place they can walk down to for bagels,” he says. “It seems like the whole apartment complex is excited to have us there.”

There’s a new bagel shop coming to East Dallas from a veteran team: Called Bagel Bros., it’ll open…

[5135
5229,52611,1596,10084,358,3187,67,586,132,5230,68,2969
0":"post-134694","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-dallas","8":"tag-america","9":"tag-bagels","10":"tag-dallas","11":"tag-openings","12":"tag-texas","13":"tag-tx","14":"tag-united-states","15":"tag-united-states-of-america","16":"tag-unitedstates","17":"tag-unitedstatesofamerica","18":"tag-us","19":"tag-usa
["GET
