{"id":134772,"date":"2025-08-10T16:33:11","date_gmt":"2025-08-10T16:33:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/134772\/"},"modified":"2025-08-10T16:33:11","modified_gmt":"2025-08-10T16:33:11","slug":"why-mark-zuckerbergs-neighbors-not-so-secretly-hate-him","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/134772\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Mark Zuckerberg\u2019s Neighbors Not-So-Secretly Hate Him"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Members of Mark Zuckerberg\u2019s local community in California say the Meta CEO\u2019s decision to move in has completely upended life in their otherwise peaceful and leafy district.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cNo neighborhood wants to be occupied,\u201d Michael Kieschnick, who lives in a home in Crescent Park, a neighborhood in Palo Alto that\u2019s surrounded on three sides by properties owned by the tech tycoon, <a onclick=\"_sendArticleBodyInlineLinkClickAnalytics(&#039;https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/08\/10\/us\/mark-zuckerberg-palo-alto.html&#039;)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/08\/10\/us\/mark-zuckerberg-palo-alto.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">told The New York Times Sunday<\/a>. \u201cBut that\u2019s exactly what they\u2019ve done. They\u2019ve occupied our neighborhood.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Zuckerberg, along with his wife Priscilla Chan and their three daughters, moved to the community more than 14 years ago. In the time since, the family has spent more than $110 million buying at least 11 houses spread across just two streets, offering prior owners up to triple the value of their homes to move out.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"gettyimages-1344976541-594x594_fduoh0\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/MGSJ26FECZJZZDP7RJCY3ZLEY4.jpg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"533\"\/>The Zuckerbergs moved to Palo Alto, home of Stanford University, 14 years ago. David Madison\/Getty Images <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Zuckerbergs have apparently now turned five of those buildings into a single compound, complete with a main house, guest houses, luxurious gardens, a pickleball court and a large swimming pool\u2014along with a now-notorious seven-foot statue of Chan herself. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Another building is apparently being used by the family as a private school for more than a dozen children, even though the NYT reports this is against Palo Alto city codes. \u201cHe\u2019s been finding loopholes around our local laws and zoning ordinances,\u201d Greer Stone, a local council member, said. \u201cWe should never be a gated, gilded city on a hill where people don\u2019t know their neighbors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"articles\/2013\/04\/24\/look-what-mark-zuckerberg-and-priscilla-chan-wore-on-their-hawaiian-vacation\/130424-zuckerberg-chan-hawaii-tease_ao8dtk\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IVTZDDLTGNNHXJDJVN5T4O6XDE.jpg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"449\"\/>Neighbors have accused Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan of creating an immense racking over eight years worth of construction work at their properties, of which they now own 11. DaGreenTeam \/ Splash News <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Beneath the complex, Zuckerberg has apparently also drilled down to create cavernous areas referred to in building permits as \u201cbasements,\u201d and better known among his neighbors as \u201cbunkers\u201d or the billionaire\u2019s \u201cbat cave.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Construction is understood to have spanned more than eight years, with neighbors complaining their streets have been almost constaantly filled with building equipment and loud noises. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Others have taken issue with the fact that Zuckerberg\u2019s homes are apparently rigged with extensive surveillance equipment, including cameras that allegedly overlook other houses in the neighborhood.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cBillionaires everywhere are used to just making their own rules\u2014Zuckerberg and Chan are not unique, except that they\u2019re our neighbors,\u201d Kieschnick told the paper. \u201cBut it\u2019s a mystery why the city has been so feckless.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Zuckerberg family has been willing to make some concessions after their fellow community members have complained in the past.
