{"id":135039,"date":"2025-08-10T18:58:10","date_gmt":"2025-08-10T18:58:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/135039\/"},"modified":"2025-08-10T18:58:10","modified_gmt":"2025-08-10T18:58:10","slug":"former-magic-guard-cole-anthony-says-farewell-to-orlando","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/135039\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Magic guard Cole Anthony says farewell to Orlando"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Throughout the first five years of his pro career, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/2024\/06\/14\/orlando-magic-cole-anthony-season-review-nba-playoffs-jamahl-mosley\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cole Anthony<\/a> committed himself to the city of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/2025\/08\/07\/marta-shaq-tiger-woods-orlando-pride-orlando-magic-kaka-mike-bianchi-commentary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Orlando<\/a> on and off the court.<\/p>\n<p>In March 2024, he won the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/2024\/03\/02\/orlando-magic-detroit-pistons-gary-harris-jamahl-mosley-cole-anthony-nba\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Magic\u2019s Rich &amp; Helen DeVos Community Enrichment Award<\/a> for the first time, and last fall he was named the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/2024\/11\/15\/orlando-magic-cole-anthony-nba-cares-bob-lanier-community-assist-award-new-york-charity-david-robinson-kia-center\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NBA Cares Bob Lanier Community Assist Award winner<\/a> for October.<\/p>\n<p>So it was only fitting Sunday when the former Magic guard, who was traded earlier this summer, and his 50 Ways Foundation held a back-to-school community event at the Smith Center that also served as a farewell to the local area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was just important to let the community know that we\u2019re still here,\u201d Anthony said. \u201cOrlando still means a lot to us. We still are thankful for how the city\u2019s embraced us and everything. We wanted to do something for the kids because that\u2019s what it\u2019s really about \u2014 the next generation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In mid-June, the Magic sent Anthony, guard <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/2025\/06\/21\/orlando-magic-desmond-bane-memphis-grizzlies-short-arms-mike-bianchi-commentary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kentavious Caldwell-Pope<\/a> and four future first-round picks as part of a blockbuster trade with Memphis in exchange for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/2025\/06\/22\/orlando-magic-desmond-bane-memphis-grizzlies-tcu-nba-trade-jamahl-mosley\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Desmond Bane<\/a>, who averaged 19.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.16 steals per contest last season.<\/p>\n<p>Anthony, who was drafted by Orlando 15th overall in 2020, couldn\u2019t believe what happened when Magic president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman called him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI remember my agent called me; I remember talking with Jeff, and I was just like, \u2018Dang, is this real?&#8217;\u201d the 6-foot-2 guard said. \u201cI remember that whole week; it was just crazy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been here five years, haven\u2019t played for another team, was drafted here, so it\u2019s something for me that definitely is bittersweet and I\u2019m going to miss it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While Caldwell-Pope stuck with the Grizzlies, Anthony did not.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, he signed with the Bucks in July after he agreed to a buyout with Memphis. Anthony, 25, will join former Magic guard <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/2025\/06\/16\/magic-make-decisions-about-club-options-for-gary-harris-cory-joseph\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gary Harris<\/a>, who also signed with Milwaukee as a free agent after Orlando declined his club option for the upcoming season.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"Former Magic guard Cole Anthony and his 50 Ways Foundation held a back-to-school community event Sunday at the Smith Center that also served as a farewell to the city of Orlando. (Jason Beede\/Orlando Sentinel)<\/p>\n<p>Anthony and Harris will suit up alongside two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, who led Milwaukee to its second league championship in 2021. Anthony wants to help Milwaukee get back to the top after three straight first-round postseason exits.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI look at it as a great opportunity to enter another team where they have a playoff pedigree and a championship pedigree,\u201d Anthony said about joining the Bucks. \u201cThey\u2019ve won a \u2018chip there. I just want to get in there, contribute and do whatever I can for the team.
