CBS<\/p>\n<p>Lucie wouldn\u2019t consider her dad\u2019s suspected infidelities \u201caffairs\u201d because he allegedly only cheated on Ball with \u201chookers.\u201d Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople say he had affairs,\u201d Lucie, 73, told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@cbssundaymorning\/video\/7517765986347420983?_r=1&amp;_t=ZP-8xMVYqs1duR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CBS Sunday Morning<\/a> in a new interview. \u201cHe never had an\u00a0affair.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe didn\u2019t even know these dames\u2019 names, you know?\u201d she added. \u201cThey were hookers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even though Lucie admitted that her father likely cheated on her Hollywood icon mom, she also insisted that Desi \u201cloved\u201d Ball and that Ball \u201cunderstood\u201d that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople say he had affairs. He never had an\u00a0affair,\u201d Lucie said. \u201cHe didn\u2019t even know these dames\u2019 names, you know? They were hookers.\u201d CBS<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe loved my mother. He loved his family. It was a very unique, weird problem to have, and I think that\u2019s the reason she stayed with him so long, is that she understood it,\u201d she continued. \u201cI don\u2019t think I could do what she did.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut somehow at the time, with what they had, with what they needed from each other, they stuck it out as long as they could,\u201d Lucie added.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cI Love Lucy\u201d stars married in November 1940 and, 11 years later, introduced audiences across the country to the show that some say \u201cinvented\u201d the modern sitcom.<\/p>\n<p>Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball married in November 1940. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Desi, who was a successful musician and bandleader before playing Ricky Ricardo in \u201cI Love Lucy,\u201d and Ball, who was an aspiring actress before she exploded in popularity as Lucy Ricardo on the show, welcomed Lucie just six weeks after they filmed the first episode.<\/p>\n<p>Although Ball reportedly wanted to name her daughter Susan, Desi allegedly <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/11\/entertainment\/desi-arnaz-changed-lucille-ball-firstborn-childs-name\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">went behind his wife\u2019s back and changed it<\/a> to Lucie on the birth certificate.<\/p>\n<p>The couple later welcomed a son, Desi Arnaz Jr., in 1953.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cI Love Lucy\u201d stars welcomed daughter Lucie in 1951 and son Desi Jr. in 1953. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>But Ball ultimately filed for divorce from Desi in March 1960 after 20 tumultuous years of marriage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt got so bad that I thought it would be better for us not to be together,\u201d\u00a0the actress and comedian reportedly told the court during her and Desi\u2019s divorce proceedings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey were just going through a routine for the children,\u201d biographer Bart Andrews later told <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/archive\/cover-story-the-real-story-of-desi-and-lucy-vol-35-no-6\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">People<\/a> in 1991. \u201cShe told me that for the last five years of their marriage, it was \u2018just booze and broads.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ball filed for divorce from Desi in March 1960 after 20 tumultuous years of marriage. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The rise and fall of the couple\u2019s relationship was depicted in the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/12\/05\/nicole-kidman-transforms-into-lucille-ball-in-being-the-ricardos-biopic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2021 biopic \u201cBeing the Ricardos\u201d<\/a> \u2013 which Lucie recently <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/09\/entertainment\/lucille-ball-desi-arnazs-daughter-slams-being-the-ricardos-storyline\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">called \u201cso wrong\u201d and \u201csuch a crock of poop.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Lucie can still remember exactly where <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/08\/05\/entertainment\/lucille-ball-desi-arnazs-children-share-rare-photo-alive-and-well\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">she and her little brother<\/a> were when they learned that their parents were splitting up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were at their house in Palm Springs,\u201d she told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=5jD46opinT4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CBS Sunday Morning<\/a>. \u201cAnd they said that, \u2018We love each other, but the being-husband-and-wife part is broken. And we can\u2019t live together anymore.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lucie still remembers exactly where she and her little brother were when they learned that their parents were splitting up. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Both stars remarried following their 1960 divorce. <\/p>\n<p>Desi tied the knot with\u00a0family friend Edith Mack Hirschin in 1963, and they remained married until her passing in 1985. He later died from lung cancer in December 1986 at the age of 69.<\/p>\n<p>As for Ball, she married comedian\u00a0Gary Morton\u00a0in 1962. They remained married until Ball tragically passed away following a\u00a0ruptured aortic aneurysm\u00a0in April 1989.
