{"id":135301,"date":"2025-08-10T21:21:11","date_gmt":"2025-08-10T21:21:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/135301\/"},"modified":"2025-08-10T21:21:11","modified_gmt":"2025-08-10T21:21:11","slug":"new-wildfire-spreading-rapidly-in-outskirts-of-moncton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/135301\/","title":{"rendered":"New wildfire spreading rapidly in outskirts of Moncton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Firefighters from Moncton, Dieppe and Riverview are battling a new wildfire fire north of the Irishtown Nature Park near Moncton.<\/p>\n<p>The rural community of\u00a0Maple Hills, which includes Irishtown, has posted on its Facebook page that it is asking some residents to &#8220;take immediate steps to prepare for a possible evacuation.&#8221; There is no evacuation order yet, but they are urging people to have personal belongings and pets ready to go.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The areas most at risk, according to a map posted by the community are those between Cape Breton Road to the North, Weisner Road to the east, Elmwood Drive to the west and Roma Way to the south.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As of 5\u00a0p.m. AT, the fire near McArthur Lane spanned\u00a030\u00a0hectares and was listed as\u00a0out of control, according to the provincial fire data dashboard. The map displays an area with the following boundaries: Cape Breton Road to the North, Weisner Road to the east, Elmwood Drive to the west and Roma Way to the south. (Maple Hills NB\/CBC)<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Please avoid the area to allow safe access for emergency vehicles and water shuttle operations,&#8221; said the association on Facebook.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Near Miramichi, three homes and a cottage are under an evacuation order and another 15 homes are under an alert due to the wildfire burning on Oldfield Road.<\/p>\n<p>New Brunswick Department of Natural Resources spokesperson\u00a0Nick Brown said in an email that no one was home at the four properties when the evacuation order was issued.<\/p>\n<p>The province&#8217;s fire data dashboard says the Oldfield Road fire now spans 340 hectares.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"A man in a suit is speaking to reporters inside the legislature building.\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/natural-resources-minister-john-herron.JPG\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.3333333333333333\" data-cy=\"image-img\"\/>Natural Resources Minister John Herron describes the fire near Miramichi to be out of control. (Jacques Poitras\/CBC)<\/p>\n<p>Brown said it is difficult to measure the exact size of the fire as smoke has lead to reduced visibility. The\u00a0fire was first detected on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It did jump Highway 8 and burned about 20 hectares,&#8221; said Brown on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The section of Highway 8 between Route 450 and Oldfield Road remains closed.<\/p>\n<p>Miramichi Mayor Adam\u00a0Lordan said\u00a0the last update\u00a0he received on the fire, at approximately 1 p.m., showed it\u00a0was &#8220;moving in the opposite direction\u00a0of the city.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Thankfully it&#8217;s not in an area close to any communities,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Lordan said firefighters were patrolling the river to make sure no boaters were\u00a0in the way of the\u00a0water bombers, as they swooped down to refill. He said the City&#8217;s\u00a0Lord Beaverbrook Arena is offering a place for firefighters to stay, in partnership with the Red Cross.<\/p>\n<p>New Brunswick&#8217;s Natural Resources Minister John Herron\u00a0said at a news conference on Saturday the fire was &#8220;beyond control.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He said fire conditions are so extreme that &#8220;under the current environment it doesn&#8217;t matter what we throw at it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Oldfield Road fire is one of 12\u00a0fires burning\u00a0in the province,\u00a0according to the fire data dashboard.\u00a0A fire near\u00a0Canterbury in Carleton County was brought under control Sunday afternoon.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Smoke coming from a forest fire, we can see some flames.\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/slash-fire.jpeg\" style=\"aspect-ratio:0.7506361323155216\" data-cy=\"image-img\"\/>A fire in Carleton County, near Canterbury, spans about five hectares. (New Brunswick&#8217;s Department of Natural Resources)<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday morning, Brown said it spanned\u00a0about five hectares with 40 firefighters on scene.<\/p>\n<p>The dashboard says nine of the fires\u00a0are now being patrolled.
