Photograph: Reuters<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Minns said last week Folbigg was \u201cfree to take the NSW government to court\u201d if she wants more than the $2m for the two decades she spent in prison after she was wrongfully convicted of killing her four children. Her name was cleared in 2023 by the appeals court, just months after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/australia-news\/2023\/jun\/05\/kathleen-folbigg-pardon-what-evidence-emerged-over-her-childrens-deaths-and-what-happens-next\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">she was granted an unconditional pardon <\/a>and released from prison. NSW attorney general <strong>Michael Daley<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/australia-news\/2025\/aug\/07\/kathleen-folbigg-compensation-wrongful-conviction-ntwnfb\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">granted the ex-gratia payment<\/a> earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Folbigg told the Telegraph the $2m sum was \u201cdisappointing\u201d and that the figure would limit her ability to live comfortably \u201cwithout having a fear that I won\u2019t have superannuation that\u2019s enough to support me or I won\u2019t be able to go to the dentist\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">She added returning to the courtroom to seek more compensation would be traumatising.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-spacefinder-role=\"inline\" class=\"dcr-154zxly\">\n<p>It\u2019s pretty much off the cards. Labor holds 10 seats, the Greens 5 and others 6, leaving the state with a hung parliament.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Rockliff announced the greyhounds decision on Sunday in an attempt to garner support from some of those crossbenchers. Wells will be paid $1.65m annually, plus bonuses.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Smart was COO at JB Hi-Fi from 2000 to 2010 then stepped up as CEO until leaving in 2014. Her name was cleared in 2023 by the appeals court, just months after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/australia-news\/2023\/jun\/05\/kathleen-folbigg-pardon-what-evidence-emerged-over-her-childrens-deaths-and-what-happens-next\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">she was granted an unconditional pardon <\/a>and released from prison. NSW attorney general <strong>Michael Daley<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/australia-news\/2025\/aug\/07\/kathleen-folbigg-compensation-wrongful-conviction-ntwnfb\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">granted the ex-gratia payment<\/a> earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Folbigg told the Telegraph the $2m sum was \u201cdisappointing\u201d and that the figure would limit her ability to live comfortably \u201cwithout having a fear that I won\u2019t have superannuation that\u2019s enough to support me or I won\u2019t be able to go to the dentist\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">She added returning to the courtroom to seek more compensation would be traumatising.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-spacefinder-role=\"inline\" class=\"dcr-154zxly\">\n<p>It\u2019s pretty much off the cards. Photograph: Matt Turner\/EPA<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The harmful algal bloom has been devastating the state\u2019s coastline <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/australia-news\/2025\/jul\/20\/sas-toxic-algal-bloom-is-twice-the-size-of-the-act-has-killed-12000-animals-and-is-filling-even-the-experts-with-dread\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">since March<\/a>, affecting more than 450 marine species. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/australia-news\/2025\/jul\/22\/south-australia-algal-bloom-declared-natural-disaster-peter-malinauskas\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Watt first visited Adelaide<\/a> on 21 July to pledge $14m to assist the state in dealing with the crisis.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-spacefinder-role=\"inline\" class=\"dcr-154zxly\">\n<p>What we were doing, though, in the run-up to that was working very closely with the South Australian government for weeks.
