{"id":136082,"date":"2025-08-11T04:41:17","date_gmt":"2025-08-11T04:41:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/136082\/"},"modified":"2025-08-11T04:41:17","modified_gmt":"2025-08-11T04:41:17","slug":"family-remembers-selfless-san-antonio-woman-who-died-after-aiding-hill-country-flood-recovery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/136082\/","title":{"rendered":"Family remembers \u2018selfless\u2019 San Antonio woman who died after aiding Hill Country flood recovery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><strong>SAN ANTONIO<\/strong> \u2013 The family of a San Antonio woman who died helping flood victims in Sandy Creek after the Hill Country floods remembers her as \u201cselfless\u201d and \u201ccourageous.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Lysa Hieber, 65, spent nearly a month helping search for people and belongings while providing medical care to volunteers and community members.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cLysa was a force of nature,\u201d Loretta Hieber said. \u201cShe was probably the most courageous person I knew.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Lysa Hieber served as a nurse for 30 years, both in and out of the military.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cShe served in the Iraq War as a nurse,\u201d Loretta Hieber said. \u201cHer job was to fly wounded soldiers from Iraq to Germany for treatment. She was somebody who was just born to give to others, and unfortunately, the last time she was volunteering was just too much for her health.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Lysa Hieber developed heart issues while in the military.
